I love this game to bits, but it's terribly frustrating to have a great run going, then have the game come to a complete stop, save for the music continuing to play until I kill the application. I'm on Windows 10. This problem has happened... many times. I haven't figured out yet anything I might be doing to trigger the game freeze, and I have not been able to make it resume once it stops. I havnt been able to get the game to play in windowed mode at all, the options and all of the other work arounds dont do anything for me. Anyone have a fix for this issue?

The game runs at normal fps at first, but as soon as enemies start pouring in and the player ship is shooting, the framerate drops to around 20~30, making the ship hard to control and bullets hard to observe (is this intended?). In areas that are not so busy, the framerate is normal. Im using win7 64bit with 8GB RAM...
