Is there a bug about matching birds?

I'm trying to get the gold rating on all the levels and there are a few that say "matches must be no more than 3 birds". So I do a 3 bird match and get the "fail" sound and it crosses out where the gold rating would show. I don't understand, is this a bug?...

Wha? It said combos can't be more than 3 birds. Well I did a 3 bird combo and it made the "fail" sound and crossed out the gold. Bug?!

I can't figure out how to do this level in the certain number of moves to get gold. I end up with 1 extra move. Grrrr!

Hey! My mom likes Match 3 games and she absolutely loves the unique mechanic C&W. We are desperately looking for more games with a same or similar mechanic, I am pretty sure my mom has played literally hundreds of match 3 games both before & since and we have never seen anything like this again. Does anyone have any tips? :)...
