Is it possible to land on the planets?

What do ecm units do? And hiw can I defeat another ship? I have bought the most expensive weapon and shields in the first station. But I still lose.How to combat better?

I too loved this game when I was a kid, I played it Elite and many others on my Commodore 64. I have a couple of questions about this version. Question 1: Can I load it straight through Steam and does it launch cleanly, (as I do for most of my other games)or do I need to use it via something like DosBox? Question 2: Is the game conrolled solely through mouse and keyboard or can an X-Box 360 controller or a joystick work as well?...

There's nothing in the manual about keyboard commands, which I presume were a separate document given the different systems the game would run on. Does anyone have a list of keyboard commands that work in this version?
