Game About Strawberry; Good

It's a very difficult game. After finishing chapter 4 I'm not sure I have the enthusiasm to carry on! I assume that what awaits me is levels that have an even higher level of difficulty. It was very much a "life's too short" decision. I'm not really a fan of platformers, but I could appreciate the intricate design of the game's levels. I can see why it's so widely regarded.

I liked the contrast of the pixelated artwork combined with the ultra HD menu text and portraits, I think it worked really well. I wasn't a huge fan of all of the screen shake and time dilation that happened, even when I tweaked it a bit in the options.


The story wasn't very interesting to me, it had far too much chit-chat delivered at a slow pace. One phrase per dialog box, and a second per box. Mashing AAAAAAA didn't progress it fast enough for me due to the games 'flip' effect on the dialog boxes, but I did find a "skip cutscene" option in the menu (of all places!?! Why not the dash button?) that I had to use every time. I would have liked to have read it to know whatever it was these people are chatting about for hours, but it was just too slow.

I didn’t just enjoy it - I’ve got such much affection for it. Not only is it the best 2D platformer ever made, but it uses its difficult gameplay and cute characters to tell a really heartwarming story.
