Positive recommendation with a caveat

Pro:
- The game is pretty to look at, but dated.
- The music is beautiful. They managed to capture/cover/be influenced by music such as 80's Conan soundtrack, biome influenced, even the score from the Last of the Mohicans is covered.
- Lots of content that will keep you busy for many hours. PvP/PvE oriented.
Assault/dungeons/stronghold, etc...
- Souls like combat.
- Has a main quest line and a narrative, even thou it's convoluted.
- Good immersion factor.
- Some QOL are better than other survival games.
- It shines with friends on private or unofficial servers.

Con:

- Game is bought by Tencent, so you get spied and data stolen by the CCP.
- Always online, you cannot play unless you go through their servers, even if you don't play on official. Sometimes of course, their servers don't work.
- Game starts to show it's age, the loads/glitches become worse and worse.
- The game is suffocated with bugs. It's bad. A lot of them are game breaking. Honestly, I don't know if the devs are incompetent or they are forbidden to fix bugs. I would think the latter. Some of the bugs are basic level, and a lot of times, game feels like early access. Each new patch introduces new bugs and they just don't fix them.
- visual glitch with the character having twisted legs every time you dismount.
- falling under the map
- items vanishing when fast travelling
- things visible for other players but not for you
- things becoming invisible unless reloading the area
- npc not reacting/ enemies not reacting
- mission triggers not working
- crashes and fatal errors galore

Honesly, I found a new bug almost everyday I played.
- Some QoL improvements that are the norm for survival games, completely absent. Thank the modders!
- Official servers are grief/cheat swamped.
- The devs constantly nerf and work on raising the level of grind, while allowing pay to win and power creep with dlc's. Sometimes you won't know if it's a nerf or a new bug (legendaries repair/best armors in the game unrepairable, etc).
- DLC's have pay to win things in them. You cannot repair dlc's items that your friends make for you.
- Souls like combat.

Tl:DR
The game is riddled with bugs and crashes, forces always online, is owned by Tencent and has pay to win dlc's, while official servers are filled with griefers and cheaters. In normal circumstances I would never recommend this game. However there is a caveat. Play this game ONLY if you have your own unofficial server with admin capabilities and with friends. It is the only way this game can shine and be enjoyable: playing with friends and, having the capability to compensate for game breaking bugs and grind through admin commands. Even so you'll feel disappointed by the jank and crashes. If you can do that and tweak the game to your liking, it can be very enjoyable, otherwise, give it a pass. Either way, NEVER buy it full price, but on a heavy sale. If they are so disinterested in fixing the game and making it better, you shouldn't be interested in paying full price.

This is mainly for me as reminder what I don't like about the game:
Battle pass and in-game store
non-cosmetic dlcs
huge amount of not addressed bugs since release but being able to add more monetized content

What happens when you sell a game to a greedy Chinese publisher? It gets destroyed by micro-transactions! Used to be an amazing game! Now, it's just another money-grabbing garbage!

This is one of those games where the world is incredible and it has it's fun moments. Im a big fan of anything Conan or lovecraftian so this game hits that sweet spot for me. there's a lot to do, explore, bosses to fight and loot to find. You can sink hours into it.
But... i just can't recommend it. there was a time where this game did not have a battlepass or a cash shop. the cash shop is atrocious with its prices and this game was not built for a battlepass and it shows it feels like a slapped on feature that's a pain to use.
let's not forget the constant updates that make combat a stamina slog fest, breaking NPC health or just making the game more of a grind than it already is. The Co-op is terrible if you choose to play on a private game whoever joins is tethered to the host and can't walk to do their own thing or farm for the base.
There are better Survival games out there that don't pretend to be a live service.. but there aren't many games that feel like old school Barbarians delving in a dungeon.

If you can get past the battlepass, cash shop, devolving updates to the game and you like Sword & Sorcery settings or deathtrap dungeon (one boss is literally the cover art of Deathtrap dungeon) it's a cool game for a while until the issues grind the fun down.

i purchased conan exiles and all the dlc years ago. For years It was My dlc, then they sold out to tencent gaming and started changing the tos nice and slow like until finally after four years of established dlc ownership in which i could use and share my good faith purchased dlc all of the sudden after four years of well established intent they change the terms of our purchases in my personal case four ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ years After the sale. Instantly defrauding me with their bad faith bait and switch sale tecnicques from tencent. Steam of course is complicit in this conspiracy to willfully and intentionally defraud good faith consumers years after the sale. No I do NOT recommend you do any good faith patronage of this known cheat producing, fraudster company.
Now they flood the game with lag producing over priced vanity ♥♥♥♥ causing so much lag that modding is factually being forced out after they steal all manner of in game content ideas from the modder... need to mention who created dynamic events in this game first .. it was a modder not ♥♥♥♥ you com.

This game is awesome. Also lots of titties. And bodies severed in half. 7/7
