Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is a one-of-a-kind experience in which the voices in your head give you binaural ASMR while you travel through gorgeous landscapes and participate in some of the most boring 3-button combat sessions you could possibly imagine (although the fun part of the combat is trying not to get flanked by the enemies that will decide to spawn behind you). That being said, the lore, story, and performances make this worth a try.

the atmosphere and the sound in this game are A TOP TIER work, but the combat system and the puzzles RUINED it, its just impossible for me to enjoy the game.

Great story, amazing environment and even better sound design. A must play without a doubt.

Some parts of the game are a bit repetitive and combat isn't as complex as it could be, but as someone who isn't familiar with this genre of games, I am glad the game was noob friendly and not too punishing to those who have no experience with this type of combat.

Disclaimer: I only played 30 minutes of the game...

And can't recommend it because there is nothing the player can do to mitigate the motion sickness-inducing camera wobble. The framerate was poor no matter what I did (I run VR games without issue) and there is no in-game support for turning off the camera "float." As someone who has personal experience with mentally ill patients, I deeply appreciate some level of "you can't control this," but for accessibility, camera floating/shaking isn't the place to do that.

This game is a great example of knowing that you will lose even from the start of the game, but still keep going with a dull faith. And as expected, to lose at the end...

This is a story told in the way that only the medium of video games can tell it-- with exceptional visuals, soundscapes, and technical and narrative tension all culminating in an immersive experience unique to video games. And just like every video game ever the third act is kinda spotty. While much of the game is impeccably presented the areas where it's gaminess come out feel that much more jarring.

There is some sort of mechanic where when you die you lose part of your health and eventually will be sent back to the very beginning of the game. This is not a hard game but it does expect you to understand its rules. Towards the end I was misunderstanding the logic of one of the puzzles and had to restart a few times. I didn't know how many times I could do that before the game would revert me to the start. I made it through and finished the game without knowing how close I came to that restarting mechanic. And I have to say, if it had sent me back to the very start I'm not sure I would continue. There is a lot of slow jogging towards tense encounters in this game, and while it is beautiful I'm not too keen on redoing some of the more convoluted sections. But, if I had failed and given up I would be turning it over in the back of my mind for a long time if I should go back up and try again because there is something to this experience that is just head and shoulders above every narrative focused game I've played.

Hellblade feels like gaming literature, an example of the form done right and so confidently that it will be held up for years as a touchstone. I got it for three bucks and it felt like finding an old work of art in the used bin at a thrift store. Very much looking for to the sequel.

Combat is fun and simple, character design is great, an amazing protagonist, interesting bosses and lore. However it is very slow, a lot of the game is just looking at Senua's face while characters talk. There is a neat added weight to the game that I will not spoil but it is effective. Puzzles are neat. If you like Norse Mythology then definitely check this game out. It will be tough to get through if you have the attention span of a toddler.

Awesome story telling and the environment is stunning but please senua speedup.
