A great albeit short and quite simple entry into the "learn a language based on context" genre.
It definitely makes you use your brain, especially when it comes to getting all the endings.

Also very light spoilers below:

I am a big fan of the game not really rail-roading you in anyway on your understanding of what the words actually mean. The notebook is purely for your reference, and as long as you're building the correct associations, you are making progress.

I played this game with a friend. We really enjoyed it. Both of us like language puzzle games anyway, especially me, and I thought that this one was very short and sweet, with good discovery mechanics.

Briefly, you play as an apothecary who has been sent to work in a rural area, where the manual for the ancient medication-making equipment is in an old language that you don't know. The people speak your modern tongue.

The mechanics of the manual let you input translations per-word and will autopopulate across all instances of that word. There is no mechanic that will clarify whether or not your translation is "correct", except in the feedback that your patients give you (I personally really like it when there is no "one correct" translation). The grammar and syntax are typical very simple/nonexistent, no more complex with noun + verb or verb + noun, but you still have to figure out what each word is. I did not find any patterns in how the words are written, so you can treat each word as a separate unit, though if someone else has an insight on any patterns, please let me know!

The manual hints about various mechanics to make new medications, as well as to interact with the world.

Gametime runs 1-2 hours. There are multiple endings, which essentially are just various flavours of good/bad depending on how many patients you successfully treat. It rewards curiosity and a thoughtful approach to the manual.

Whenever you do finish, I recommend looking up a guide in your language for the full manual translation, as there may be things that were all in the manual that you didn't figure out on your playthrough, and seeing the full manual is cool. :]

Finally, for English speakers, when you first load up the game, you may have to change the language to English. The translation is very good. I didn't notice any typos or weird grammar, and I thought that the writing was simple yet evocative.

Some notes for people playing for the first time:
1. It's all there in the manual. If you properly translate and study the manual, and if you use your curiosity to make things ahead of time, there is ZERO trial and error involved, and there are no "unfair" mechanics.
2. Explore the workshop! Click and drag things. Hold things down. The manual will explicitly tell you about all the mechanics if you translate it, but even if you fail to translate it properly, you can discover all of the 'secrets' just by being curious and clicking, dragging, and holding down on everything.
3. Once you make a medication for the first time, you will always have it, without needing to remake it. Some medications disappearing? Hm... Is there something you haven't figured out yet?
4. Make patients feel better. If the patient hasn't explicitly told you that they are feeling better, you still have work to do. Think carefully.

Of the various "short" language decipherment games I've played, including 7 Days to End with You and Epigraph among others, I was most impressed with this game for there being no unfair/hidden mechanics and for focusing on a relatively "mundane" story. I would have loved to see more of the language and especially some grammar/syntax, but I really loved this game for what it was. Great job to the developers!

Short and sweet, and very satisfying to play. Love how the game hides all it's mechanics in ways that they can all be discovered with regular experimentation
