Safe Won't Open! POTENTIAL SPOILER!!

Hello. Fantastic game so far but I am super frustrated as I have hit upon a strange glitch. I first played and got into the cellar but was a bit scared and freaked of the thing there so decided to drag it out a bit and restarted the game from the beginning. And now as there are no multiple saves... Possible Spoiler!!!! the safe WILL not open!
