I was in an itch to play the Banjo games but I never got around to playing this game and decided to focus that energy into it.

I am glad I did as the game is good just not great. It unfortunately borrows a lot from the old games to the point many of the movies are basically the same. Which makes the clear issues with the quality of this game really rough things up.

The main duo are clearly just how banjo and kazooie were considering its a fligying friend whos a jerk, and the larger one that carries them around that is a bit nicer. The issue is this duo is much less expressive. Some animations are very stilted and boring looking. Such as the tongue trying to eat something or the sonar shield, just both look and sound incredibly unexpressive. The other moves don't fair much better, some are better than others but most are just meh.

The transformations in this game are also lacking. The first level is just slow, boring and has low jump and is used for only one pagie. The world two transformation is also only for one pagie. World 3 moves it by it being needed for a whole 2 pagies. World 4 and 5 do much better with having utility, movement and for multiple collectibles.

The worlds are pretty varied and fun. The idea of expanding worlds is also really neat! However the fact many pagies require backtracking with abilities from later in the game. I'd like to have seen the none expansion pagies being designed to not require backtracking, and expansion to be revealed at the end of the game and filled with challanges that need you to have all the moves.

The retro rex games are also just boring if I'm honest. They give like 2 pagies in the worlds but that means you have to play it twice even if your first run would crush the highscore. Its just a needless waste of time and demand the player to do something they already proved they could.

The bosses in this game are also not great. Most of them take way too many hits for the fight to be fun. Demanding you do the same pattern 5 to 7 times. This is really bad with the world 4 boss and final boss where stages last WAY too long.

With all this negativity its still an enjoyable game and a good collectathon platformer. The game is well paced and didn't make me want it to just hurry up and end. The music is good and the game is usually fun to control.

Its just hard to say much great about the game as its mostly just solid but just doesn't do anything unique or new, and lacks its own identity it feels.

It's a realy cute light hearted 3d platformer with some technical flaws.
Yes Iam biased because I played Banjo Kazooie an many other collectathons on the n64 as a child.
Works well with Mouse and keyboard but it would be nice if you could remap the controlls
Camera movement, even on the highest setting, is slow

I really enjoyed this game, it took a little bit to really open up once you get some upgrades but it has a really good pace, art direction and nothing too frustrating expect the last boss. I don't understand the need to make annoying boss frights, challenging sure but annoying is another thing. Cut the crap.

I do recommend this game if you are looked for an old school feeling platformer.
