New Character + philosophy???

Oh, I didn't see you there.

I was just drinking the wine and reading through a glasses.

Gamba Gun's EIGHTH playable character has been added this week. It's a character with a weird movement gimmick, and it's all about styling on your enemies.

Skater can olly, kickflip, shuvit, 360, treflip and dolphin flip, and chain these together in a fun combo! WOW!

He has little tec9 guns!

But what's important is that much like the other characters, the character gimmick forces you to play in a weird way that is still fun and still "GambaGun."

"GambaFun"There are two things that every character has to have if it wants to exist:

The character gimmick needs to be fun, and it can't circumvent the gun-building and bullets.

It seems pretty simple but making fun gimmicks is a challenge on its own, and sometimes great ideas are actually horrible ideas. Let's look at a scrapped character for example:

Synth style was supposed to be a tower-defense character. His gimmick is that he has to protect his battery. The problem with this character quickly became evident: the disconnect between movement and having the battery being a sitting duck was palpable when I was testing, and despite my best efforts, the character had to get scrapped!

I couldn't waste any more time, so I quickly pivoted to making the skater, and it instantly proved to be the better option. Even without any game feel like sounds being implemented, the skater was already feeling 10 times better than the synth.

I do think there is a world where synth can exist, but that world is one where I have infinite time and, own a cat, and don't live with my parents. And I also have a latina baddie gf who brings me sandwiches without me asking for it and a really big bathtub thats basically a hot tub and also a really fast 144hz monitor and $1,000,000.
Maybe that world is just a world tomorrow...

But the cost of finishing the synth, versus the cost of pivoting was way less, so that's the way the darling's killed.

Anyways, that's what happened this week.

NEW BOSS and dev insight

Greetings Gamba Gunners

It is I, your one true saviour and blue heart goddess.

This week I added a new boss, and did it in record time, despite it having a very high amount of animation frames.

This is because the past few weeks have been dedicated to an AI rework, which is completely modular, so that means bosses (and all enemies for that matter) can be created with ease. Behaviours can be slammed together to make new and interesting enemies that do crazy stuff.

SO, THE BOSS.

Behold Dr. Derd!

Dr. Derd was disillusioned, and threw his life away in favor of delirium and debauchery. Dang!

The boss works like the other bosses, having 3 attacks and doing them randomly, but it uses a new system called the puppeteer system, which allow the boss to trigger states in enemies that it spawns. In fact, the entire boss is themed around these interactions...

Derd spawns birds (by grabbing them out of his throat,) using them as proxy attackers which circle the player. The birds activate certain attacks from many directions, which can cause a lot of chaos in the fray. Leaving Derd alive for too long can lead to lots and lots of birds, so you better deal with him quickly!

This boss is an extreme sensory overload, and its sounds intentionally Clip out all of the time, which makes it a great joy to fight, especially for first timers. It was super quick to create this boss with the new systems, and I had it fully functioning in 3 days. The production of its sounds/effects were covered soon after. This paints a bright future for the variety of content in the game, as most pipelines have been completely streamlined, yahoo!

But I overheard that if I make more posts, then I'll make more money, and that's what making games is all about.

Love the game

I think the curve for snowballing could be adjusted a bit but some new percs would do just that. Other than that I just want more of this keep it up. Very Addicting

New Features ( Maybe )

If you are seeing this I wanted to say that this game, was way better than Moon Drop Miners now really playing your game brings me enjoyment! Although I think a cool new feature for developing the game on would be a easy mode, hard mode, maybe meduim or insane and it could include the help going up a bit but overall GREAT GAME....
