ARK: Survival Evolved is a cruel mistress that I always come crawling back to for a fix.

I love this game, it's GOOD, but it's very hard to recommend, for so many reasons already voiced by folks smarter than me. A deluge of issues from years-old bugs and optimization issues, to being abandoned by its developer for a pay-to-play pay-to-win shiny new clone of itself.

If you're going to buy and play ARK at all, you WILL have fun, assuming it runs on your machine.
I would suggest this version over Ascended, at the very least. They are practically identical, but Evolved is more stable, complete, cheaper, has a HUGE workshop library that can change and improve gameplay massively, and might even have fewer bugs.

ARK survival evolved is the perfect dinosaur themed game. The game has been around for 6 years and it always pleases me with new updates and beautiful maps. The main advantage is that players can tame different types of dinosaurs. You can ride, fly, swim on them.

I have never found a game as unfriendly to new players than this. Such a massive game with so much to it and it's virtually impossible to learn it's systems before you are attacked and, in the first few hours, killed. Die in the water? Say goodbye to everything on your person since a simple fish will stop you from picking up your stuff, with no option to turn off drop on death. Even dark souls games aren't this difficult for no real reason. I had high hopes for this game and it has failed in virtually every aspect.

Before I played Ark, I was lonly, had no girlfriend, no friends, I was always the last one to get picked in soccer practice. These things haven't changed, but the game is still pretty awesome
