Why does this game require an Internet connection?

I bought this game then went to play it and it would not start. I immediately tried again and it again died right after starting. I went to go to the community to see if there were reports and workarounds and found my network adapter was disabled. I turned it on and accidentially clicked play instead of discussions and it started. Knowing that was the only change, I disabled it again and the game once again refused to start. This requirement is also not listed on games store page....

It’s easy to see why this game was a best-seller elsewhere. The content is limited, but the interaction quality, artwork, and sound are top-notch. The price is on the higher side, though, so I’d recommend waiting for a sale.

What really bothers me, however, is the achievement design. If the devs want to include achievements, that’s fine—but requiring players to idle for hours to unlock them in such a short game feels unreasonable. It turns what could’ve been a smooth experience into a tedious grind.
