Hi there!

First of all, thank you everyone for giving us a chance and trying Last Mage!

We are especially grateful to everyone who took their time to write a review or join discussion on Steam community. Your feedback is incredibly helpful and is exactly a reason we launched Last Mage in Early Access. Previous game we worked on was developed in similar fashion, but this is first game we launch a game on the Steam this early in the development. Our previous one was released on mobile first and only then ported to Steam. Now our lack of experience of "do's & don'ts" of Early Access on Steam is very showing ːsteamfacepalmː

We also want to take action about voiced concerns about the lack of communication. We'll do our best to keep communication regular and clear from now on, starting today.

Without further ado, we read all feedback and what could be done the fastest, was improved in this fix. You can read detailed patch notes below.

Added skip button for cut scenes and fast forward button in comics cut scenes
Added 'Skip' button in spell choice window
New animation for Mechanical Monster attack

"Settings" button is now accessible during tutorial.

Difficulty balance on maps 2 & 3
Buffed 'Magic Sword' rune

Ready to blast some monsters with magic? 🪄 🐛

Last Mage launches in Early Access today!

Nothing is easy when you have to descend into catacombs overflowing with monsters, but even if a little bit late, we got there!

We took all your feedback to our hearts and with completely new spells, more maps, another playable character and so many changes in UI it would be hard to list it in one entry, it's ready to enter Early Access!

Also great thanks to Wanderbots for letting us use his gameplay for broadcast! Go and give them a subscribe as well :)

Early Access Review

This game really needs a skip level-up button. It feels really bad having a good build, then you're out of rerolls, so you're forced to take a spell that contributes nothing to damage, but just wastes mana so you can't cast your two good spells. It's odd that the second map requires correct rng and luck to get enough damage to survive the first couple waves. There's no player skill involved. It's get lucky or get swarmed to death. Really poor balance there.

This is essentially still the demo, but with a couple more levels. Just one of those rushed EA releases with no real promise of completion. I was hoping for more from this. I really liked the demo. The skill mutations are awesome, but if you don't get the red upgrade, then the build is just lacking for the run, and again, might die because rng didn't favor you this run. In that sense, this game doesn't require skill or preparations, just hoping the dice favor you next run.

And adding unskippable narration to a game that needs none is obnoxious.

Making Thrust directional in a game where you're constantly running away from enemies just makes that skill entirely pointless.

Those mole enemies in Suspicious Hill are by far the worst enemy I've ever seen in a horse survivor. There's almost nothing you can do to increase your move speed, and they match yours, or are slightly faster, so they just latch on with literally no escape, just chipping away at your health until you can kill them, which, again, because of rng, you might not be able to do at the point in which they spawn, just making you die right away. This floor is literally get lucky or die.

I genuinely cannot tell whether I like this game or not. On one hand the music slaps and I dig the artstyle. Cutscenes are a bit slow (wish I could increase text speed), but the art is nice to look at while waiting for text to scroll. Mythical tier upgrades spell upgrades do a good job transforming how the spell works and how you use it to face the enemies, so that's nice and makes for some satisfying highs when you hit them. For a game that costs twice as much as Vampire Survivors, you'd hope it'd deliver something at least comparable to the polish of VS but it does not. The game has a foundation I wouldn't mind seeing explored but the execution is honestly really bad. Items take too long to obtain and the 2nd level is nigh impossible. It feels like you're just waiting for the right RNG to give you the right skills and passive upgrades and the right items otherwise you can't progress at all. Meh.

Game needs to triple its content to be worth it atm.

Aside from the very limited spell pool, as others have mentioned, gameplay is really rough. Practically zero decision making, little skill expression (no dodge, no strafing). A few directional skills require facing the enemies for a splitsecond during kiting, guess you can call that interactive gameplay.
Balance is rough, you either roll a lot of the high tier upgrades or lose the dps check when a swarm of enemies spawn at once. "Bosses" are just large hp pools that take longer to kite than the rest. Except for one enemy type things just run at you.

I love the music and I like the art, but the experience is just too frustrating at the current state with little player engagement in its gameplay. Had I not gone over the 2h mark trying (and failing even with a stupidly highroll of a build), I would have refunded.

I'm not sure what the progression is. I've done the first 3 zones. went back with the new character. zone 4 is like, impossible to do yet i still have a character locked.

UPDATE ABOUT RELEASE DELAY

Hi everyone! We super sorry about the delay in Early Access launch. We know it's upsetting, as everyone were looking for it. We're quite upset as well, as everything on our side is ready to go. Until yesterday everything was green and ready for the release, but today Steam stopped recognizing Last Mage depots despite being uploaded. From what we've researched, it isn't an isolated issue unfortunately. We filled a support ticked and we're waiting for help rn :( Once again, we're very sorry and the mom...
