I bought this game on Steam, I don't want any part of another launcher. If I wanted to play this on Epic I'd play it on Epic. This is no reflection on the quality of the game itself, just these anti-consumer practices.

EPIC - ONLINE - SERVICE

Game is fine, gets you a very watered down Homeworld experience if you want it. Review is negative due to always online Epic Games matchmaking services in a game that launched just fine without any of that.

Very disappointed I am no longer able to play this game's wonderful campaign when offline. Please stop ruining perfection, developers :(

Stop doing this epic nonsense.

The game itself is great, but this sudden install of Epic Store is uncalled for. It can be uninstalled, luckily, and doesn't affect gameplay as far as I can see, but this is just not acceptable: this is Steam, not Epic. If I wanted Epic I was on Epic. I am not, and never will be. If you force me to Epic I will simply not play the game anymore. Stop offending your paying customer base.

Game is great though, it really is. I feel bad about bombing, but practices such as these leave me no alternative; makes me keyboard-warrior-rage like a lunatic (and I'm quite a sane person otherwise).

A surprising move away from the kind of 3D space combat that Homeworld is famous for - this prequel aesthetic is like a desert ocean where your 'mother ship' is an aircraft carrier that launches other land craft that all have unique abilities. Everything serves an important role, and the base itself can be upgraded by finding 'artifacts' in the desert.

These artifacts increase the power core and let you redistribute power on the fly, letting you decide if you want to become a warship, firing more missiles and turrets, or more like an info-sec repair base with long range sensors and automated repair beams.

If you ever played the game 'Ground Control' you might be familiar with things like height and cover playing, where using terrain to flank enemies and protect yourself from LOS played an important role.

Forcing always online in a mostly singleplayer game now that the multiplayer component is effectively dead is the stuff i thought id only read about in some monkey based parallel world.

why are video game companies so incomprehensibly dumb now?

Back when i played it the first time it didnt require the epic launcher, but now it does.

So not recommend for epic launcher, game itself is great.

A really fun game, my main interest is that I really enjoyed how they did air units, it felt much more interesting and fun than just ground unit in sky. The story is a bit short, but very engaging and fun to play, and makes for a great prequel to the Homeworld games.
