Hi everyone,

This Dev Update is going to be all about 0.180, and we’re excited to talk about it because it’s going to be our biggest patch yet!

We have lots of great things in store to share, so let’s get into it.


Major changes will be made to a lot of areas in the game, and we wanted to take the time to go over our approach and the changes in store.


Something we value a lot for Palia is allowing players to play how you want to play. We also want Palians to feel that your time spent in the game is properly rewarded, no matter what activity you engage in. It’s something we think we missed the mark with initially, and have spent a lot of time evaluating changes that can be seen as positive improvements across the board. A lot of our changes will be focused on improving several areas when it comes to gold earned, and also gold spent.

Overall, we've tuned things so that most players should be earning more gold, paired with many items having recipe requirements and gold costs reduced.

In particular, what we noticed is that a lot of the gold earned in the game felt concentrated in certain areas, and not enough for several other skills. Gold earned from Mining will be tuned down, but to make up for it, the gold earned from other skills such as Foraging, Insect Catching, Hunting, and Fishing will be buffed. Thus, all skills should be on a more comparable and even playing field.

Other changes include granting more gold in areas such as quest progression and found treasure chests, as well as majorly reducing craft timers for Buildings.


So, TLDR: Lots of positive changes where you can expect to see more resources and more gold coming your way.

Listed below are some (but not all!) of the changes we intend to make:

General Changes

• Gold and Renown limits will be raised
  
• Drops for Flow-Infused Wood will be raised
  
• The cost to unlock the Copper Storage Recipe will be reduced significantly
  
• Treasure Chests found in the world will have better rewards to help out new players as they explore
  
• Over half of existing Workbench recipes have been revisited, with about 85% of those having reduced requirements
  
• The craft times for Gold and Silver Bars have been reduced from hours down to minutes
  
• Trees now have a chance to drop Amber, which can be sold as a high-value item
  
• The sell value for many Uncommon/Rare/Legendary items will increase for most skills

Housing Changes

• Several building add-ons will take significantly less time to build — think within a Palian day, not real-life time.
  
• Players will receive building add-ons as rewards for reaching initial Furniture-Making Levels
  
• This applies retroactively as well through rewards in the Mail

Gardening Changes

• The cost to purchase Gardening Plots will be reduced
  
• Players will receive some seeds for reaching initial Gardening Levels
  
• The methods to obtain fertilizer, especially SpeedyGro, will be adjusted.

Further details and specifics will be shared in the 0.180 Patch Notes, so please be on the lookout for that to get the full scope of changes in store.

We also acknowledge that, yes, it’s a lot of stuff we’re trying to do! Following the patch, we’ll be closely monitoring both player feedback and internal data to see if adjustments need to be made, as there’s always room for improvement.

That said, we look forward to seeing how players pick up on the many positive additions, as that’s the goal at the end of the day.


We plan on doing some new things and adding different types of offerings to the Premium Store. Starting off with Pets and Tool Skins, you can see these two being added to the store in the next patch.

While the Palcats have taken the spotlight for a while now, expect more pets to be added in the future. This includes the upcoming FlutterFox pet!

There are five types you can choose from: Leafy, Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

Ever felt like adding a bit of glam to your tools? Introducing Tool Skins! We plan on adding three to start out: Spring Sakura, Empyreal, and Leafy Weave.


As mentioned in a previous dev update, several features will be making their way to our next patch!

This includes:

• Building Blocks - Create unique structures with blocks, ramps, pillars, walls, and more!
  
• Grand Harvest House - The regular Harvest House not cutting it for you? Unlock an upgraded version with this building!
  
• Pavers - Creating winding roads and charming lanes with a variety of shapes and materials.

Last but not least, it looks like something special is coming in hot… and by hot, we mean HOTPOT!

Everyone’s favorite minigame has come back as a permanent addition over in the Underground area. Just don’t ask Zeki how he got them…

The following issues have been fixed:

• Fixed an issue with the screen appearing black due to FOV settings.
  
• Added in some fixes to mitigate crashing and freezes that would occur in the Housing Plot.
  
• Added a temporary fix to an issue with Flowers merging into stacks and being unable to be taken out when placed into storage.
  
• ⚠️Please note: For the time being, only seeds will be able to be put into storage. Watered and fully-grown Flowers will not be placeable in storage.
  
• Fixed the issue where having Toggle as a setting for Sprinting would disable after any other action.
  
• Fixed an issue relating to Lockboxes granting storage limits higher than intended.
  
• ⚠️Please note: if you find yourself over the intended limit upon logging into the game after the hotfix, you will have to reduce your inventory amount to use the storage again.
  
• Fixed an issue in the Temple of Gales where climbing the ancient ladder on the final island was overly difficult.
  
• Fixed the appearance of textures with the Soothsayer Outfits.
  
• The Harvelia Work Outfits, which were previously disabled due to an issue with textures, are now available again.

Hello, everyone! We hope that everyone has been enjoying Palia’s Steam Launch and the 0.178 update! But we also want to talk about some feedback that’s been brought to our attention.


We want to clear the air: since our Open Beta launch back in August 2023, the game remains as a title still in Open Beta. Know that we’ll keep our players updated with as much information as possible as we approach what we consider to be our official launch.

We know that there has been feedback regarding our messaging and status on various platforms, but the emphasis is that Palia is free-to-play and available for anyone to try. It is a continuous, ongoing effort, and we are committed to providing patch updates with new content, improvements, and bug fixes well into the future.

In fact, looking at our version, being on 0.178 means we’ve made over 178 updates to the game! Even from the start, and the days of Pre-Alpha, we made sure to include player feedback and have it shape Palia to be where it is today. And when it’s ready, we also plan to have the versioning update from “0.XXX” to “1.XXX” to better reflect Palia’s new status — but even that is not the end. We’ll keep having more patches after, and developing Palia alongside our players. That was one of the primary reasons why we wanted it to be a free-to-play, live-service game.

We invite everyone to be part of this journey.

There’s some exciting content we’ve outlined in our March Dev Update, and some we’re not quite ready to share just yet as they need a bit more time to bake.

That said, we also want to share that additional quality-of-life and accessibility features on the horizon, such as:

• Brightness sliders
  
• Colorblind features
  
• UI and text adjustments

To our players, your feedback and support of the game will keep shaping and improving Palia. This is something we extend to all players: new, old, and returning.

For our Steam players, there is an issue when you click "Skip" when creating an account through Steam
Your client will crash if, when prompted to link your Palia account, you instead click "skip." Once you re-start Palia from Steam, you should be able to login and play as normal. We're working to get this resolved as soon as possible!

Let’s spring into Steam, Palians! Today, the blossoming world of Palia blooms evermore as we welcome players on Steam alongside our spring-themed content update. As we open the garden gates, new and seasoned Palians can sow the seeds of friendship and adventure by downloading Palia for free via our Steam page. Temple of the Roots: Embark on a journey through the Temple of the Roots. Unearth new quests and discover rewards hidden beneath the [metaphorical] foliage, including the Galdur Seed Maker.

Blossoming Flora: Turn your homestead into a verdant paradise! Insects will now drop seeds for you to plant, nurturing them into blooming beauties. Plus, collect and cultivate seeds from wild trees to add to your housing plot.

Controller Rebinding: Players can now adjust their controller bindings as they please.

We’re super excited to give you a sneak peak into one of the core components of Palia gameplay today. With a game so full of things to do - houses to decorate, stories to explore, and fascinating people to meet - it can be hard to figure out where you want to start! What ties all of these things together? From making delicious food to building a beautiful couch, it’s your skills that come into play all across Palia, and are a near-constant part of the game.

Players will have eight skills to help round out their life in Palia: Foraging, mining, insect catching, gardening, hunting, furniture making, cooking, and fishing. Each of these is important in their own right - the food you cook might affect the way you play, and maybe you can’t cook that food without catching some fish or doing a little bit of gardening. Maybe you want to build a couch, but you need some Chapaa Fur first, so you need to go out hunting to get it. The more you use the skill in question, the more you level up. Leveling up is best thought of as learning - you’ll improve overall at the skill, but more ideas, items, recipes, and tools will become available to you as well.

Anyway, enough rambling about the skills - let’s take a look!

Foraging
An essential skill for gathering wood and other ingredients that grow in the wild, Foraging is one of the first skills a player can learn. Foraging utilizes the Axe to harvest wood and other crafting necessaries needed from trees. You’ll also find useful bits, bobs, blooms, and mushrooms scattered about the fields of Kilima Village and Bahari Bay to gather as you run around and explore.

Mining
If you’re looking to break up stone or ore, your pickaxe is a gold mine of skill - get it? Mining skill, that is! From soft clay deposits to heavy stone, to metals as useful as copper and iron or as rare as gold, your pickaxe will help you bring those precious ores home. You might also find some rare Starstones you can gift to the villagers!

Gardening
For those times you can’t find your greens in the wild, there’s Gardening! At the outset, Gardening seems simple, but don’t be fooled! As the only skill that takes two individual tools - the hoe and the watering can - Gardening takes far more planning and strategy than meets the eye. Still, if you upgrade your tools and take your time, you’ll absolutely be able to reap the rewards of the seeds you sow.

Cooking
Tired of eating raw carrots and mushrooms? Cooking might be the skill for you! With a wide array of recipes to learn and ingredients to choose from—not to mention all the fun ways food can impact the way you play your game. If you’re looking for a little hectic fun, invite your friends to join in cooking the more complicated recipes with you and host a potluck!

Hunting
If you’re looking to grill up a juicy steak or hearty stew, you’re going to have to bring that meat in yourself. Let your trusty bow and arrows carry you across the rolling hills and dramatic cliffs of Palia as you tussle with mighty Sernuk and mischievous Chapaas, and find ways to utilize leather in your crafting and antlers in all of your decorating.

Furnishing
What’s a house without fun decor? Flex your interior design skills by building your own furniture and decoration, and use it to create a space that feels authentically you. From hallways to spacious, workshops to kitchens to libraries to aquariums—let your imagination run wild and build your dream house.

Insect Catching
If you’re a budding entomologist, you’ll be thrilled to pick up Auni’s traps and try your hand at Insect Catching! Palia’s bursting with biodiversity, from dizzyingly fast dragonflies to a dazzling rainbow of butterflies and moths, not to mention a rare bug or two. But these crawlies aren’t creepy - and if you find one you think is cute enough, you might even consider keeping it as a buddy in your house.

Fishing
Whether you’re a master angler looking for your next big catch, or someone who would rather take a nap at the reel, there’s enough fishing in Palia to keep you satisfied. If one particular species is proving to be elusive, try testing different kinds of equipment and bait, fish at different times of day, or visit different areas.

Where will you start?
In a world like Palia, you can explore to your heart's content - so the only question left is, what skill excites you the most? Are you excited to cook up a storm or help your garden grow? Are you a budding entomologist or an aspiring angler? Maybe you're a jack-of-all-trades, or maybe you're most interested in pursuing only one or two skills to their fullest - whatever sparks your imagination!
