I find this game to just be irritating. The computer is allowed to declare war against you at any time. It seems to have an uncanny ability to attack well beyond it's territory. The cost to do anything seems to be rather prohibitive, As an example, something called "breakthrough", which should stop all attacks originating from the area is so absurdly expensive to use , it might as well not be in the game at all. And the cost seems to go up based on how much "power" you have and have very little to do with the area. The computer seems to have no problem expanding, where I've been eliminated without ever being able to expand due to the absolute lack of the necessary resource.
The diplomacy part is basically, you don't get a say. You are not allowed to enter into negotiations, just wait for the AI to decide if it wants to be a friend or foe. That's it.
The AI employs the same annoying tactic that I've encountered in a lot of games of this sort, gang up on the human player. I have actually won, a couple of times, but it was long tedious and, quite frankly, boring. Just a lot of clicking, over and over and over.
I suspect the game was designed to be played as a multiplayer, online, game. Which it would probably be okay at. But if your intention is to purchase the game to play against the AI, I can't really recommend it.
