Devlog: Key features made in 2024 + Demo update

Over the last few months, our efforts have been mainly focused on completing Chapter 1 and the Science Deck. We are happy to announce that they are now complete! Of course, there will still be some changes, fixes, and improvements. But it is already completely playable; the main storyline of the first chapter is ready! A full playthrough takes up to 12 hours.

Below is a list of changes since the last devlog:

Environment

Completion of the Science Deck
Fancy neon signs above doors and areas
Reworked distracting enemies tutorial at the beginning of the Science Deck
New plants and decor

Player: Abilities and Modules

Improved player lighting system. The illumination of your hands and weapons now represents how visible you are to enemies.
New passive PSI ability: Weightlifter. All movable objects now have weight. Strength, abilities and modules affect the maximum weight a player can lift.
Added passive skill tree: Combat
New passive PSI ability: Life Recovery
New passive PSI ability: Resuscitator
New passive PSI ability: Sniper
New passive PSI ability: Sharpshooter
New passive PSI ability: Psionic Charger
New passive PSI ability: Bot Master. Allows you to disable security robots through security terminals
New suit module: Jump Amplifier
New suit software: Password Matcher

Weapons

New energy weapon: Energy Rifle
New energy weapon: Hand Laser
Revolver: Fixed front sight swinging when aiming
Blaster: Fixed application of burning status effect
Added sniper scope modification kit
The selling price of a weapon now includes prices of all installed modules and bullets in the clip
Energy weapon mode can now be changed from the menu
Fixed the problem with the Tesla Gun arrow

Enemies

New enemy: Psionic
New enemy: Big Spider Robot
Improved Security Robots sounds
Enemies no longer endlessly pursue the player if they lose sight of him
Enemies now react to objects thrown at them and go to check the place where the throw was made from
Improved turrets intelligence. Now they better target the player on bridges. Also, turrets are now found on ceilings.
Fixed Rats reaction to the noise

New items and objects

Automatic hacking tool. Allows you to automatically hack 1 device regardless of your skills
Throwable glass. Breaks making a lot of noise
Tray. Collectable item for sale
Movable barrels with radioactive gas that can be penetrated by shots

Fixes and improvements

Fixed stutters when entering some zones
Fixed the problem with the cursor disappearing in a menu
Fixed display of keys in hints if they were changed by the player
The player no longer resurrects with a movable item in his hands
Cameras no longer look through walls
Fixed a bug that prevented you from running if you died with zero stamina
Psi abilities no longer automatically bind to free hotkeys after resurrection
Fixed a number of errors when upgrading a character with equipped stat enhancement modules
Fixed bug with saving state of hacked vending machines
Fixed a looped healing animation if you die with a syringe in your hands
Now you can enter a password without activating a device
And many other small (and not so small) issues

What's next?

We will focus on polishing Chapter 1 and improving the Intro. For example, we want to finally implement climbing. Also, we plan to re-voice the demo with professional actors.
We will continue to work on new enemies, weapons, abilities and modules.
Once Chapter 1 and the intro are polished enough, we'll move on to Chapters 2 and 3.

Solid Demo so far!

Put a little time into the demo, got into the ship and found a shotty and died and got put back together in a lab and explored, played with fuses to turn lights back on... Probably not too far into it. (Was it intentional to lose your inventory on first death? I lost the starter pistol, shotty & some resources, but also later died a second time and didn't lose my pipe or the revolver I found in the locked room) As a fan of System Shock (remake), Prey (2017), Dead Space, some of the other potential influen...

Lonely Space Demo Update 0.3.04 + Dev Log

We've been hard at work on the player's active and passive abilities system. Most of them will be available to try out in the demo. There is a list of the main changes and improvements:

PSI Abilities and Passives

Added passive skill trees: Survival and Technician
Survival passive skill trees: Stuning Strike, Improved Treatment, Energy Efficiency
Technician passive skill trees: Hacker, Repairman
Passive skills for active abilities that add new possibilities
New PSI Ability: Telekinesis
New PSI Ability: Psionic Barrier
New PSI Ability: True Vision
New PSI Ability: Bending of Light
New PSI Ability: Fire Trap
New PSI Ability: Lightning Strike
New PSI Ability: Corrosive Blast
New PSI Ability: Crimson Clot
Berser PSI Ability was reworked
Now, to hack complex digital locks or vending machines, you need to unlock a specific passive ability in the Hacker tree.

New weapons

EMP Grenade
Corrosive Grenade
Nuke Grenade

Enemies

New enemy: an armored security officer with a helmet and a shotgun.
Mechanical enemies can now be temporarily disabled when taking electrical damage.
After using the Bending of Light ability, enemies lose visibility of the player.
Improved animation of getting up from the floor after falling from the Push ability.
Cameras no longer see the player in dark places or when he uses Bending of Light ability.
Uncollected enemy weapons are no longer saved and disappear after reloading.

Fixes and improvements

New tutorial on upgrading player's character
Enemy bodies now fly apart from grenade explosions
When turning with an item in your hands, the item now always moves with the camera.
Fixed issue with equipping weapons when picking up an item.
Fixed a bug with double credits withdrawal for death.
The circular panel has been improved to provide access to more abilities and items.
Fixed a bug with installing software into the suit.
Added status for dash recharge.
The broken status for weapons dropped from enemies' hands.
Broken weapons are no longer automatically bound to hotkeys.
Reworked hacking buttons for all devices.
Now when selling items the current selling price is visible on the screen

What's next?

We're working on environment and plot of the Science Bay beyond the demo. There you will find new challenges, enemies and weapons. Stay tuned!

Player suit modules

Player suit modules and sockets logic. Some modules can significantly change the gameplay and help you find your own unique style
Module schematic items (head, body, back, hands, legs, utils)
The Suit Management Station now allows to install and remove suit modules
Some modules were hidden in Science Bay level

Improvements

New music tracks in Science Bay + music switch logic
Shotgun reload animation now can be interrupted with shot
Not enough stats notification when equip weapon (with insufficient stats)
Improved interaction with device screens
Improved movement with handling objects
Looting animations for some boxes
If not enough stats to use a weapon, firearms have a greater spread and recoil, and melee weapons have a penalty to speed
New poster + frame

Fixes

Throwables now leave cracks on glass
Fixed softlock with closing the player in a box
Lifts don't push player through the floor anymore
Fixed rat disappearance in tunnels
Fixed player status effects panel in Intro

i imagine I'm just dumb, but the 56327 password doesn't work. I can't find any more notes or anything to indicate how to unlock the door.

Feedback on Steam Next Fest Demo

I'll update this as I play. 1. I was getting deja vu when I first started the game. Couldn't figure out what it was, and thought I had played a previous game of yours. Nope, this is your first. Still had bad deja vu, and then realized, that the ship is the exact same layout, with textures, meshes, etc, as a crashed ship in a completely different game, called Planet Crafter. Not a bad thing using same assets, but it is an ingenious way to use the assets as its a cool ship. 2. Movement feels ... ehhhh no...

minesweeper rules are wrong

the hacking minigame is minesweeper but I can't do it because there are bombs next to tiles with 0 neighbours, it is broken, it should follow the rules of minesweeper
