For my new favorite twink Johnny, yes, I do recommend this game.

I think conceptually Life Eater is great, the voice acting is fantastic and from the admittedly little I played it was a fairly interesting setup however the game fell apart for me personally fairly quickly

The game is split into 3 sections as you should see in the store screenshots- there's the story cut scenes, the stalking and the ritual

The story cut scene sections are self explanatory and I cannot praise the style and presentation of the game enough

Large sections of this review will be marked with spoiler tags as if this looks appealing enough to you to read these reviews I think you should get it and hopefully enjoy it like clearly a lot of others have but I feel the issues I bring up can ruin the game for you going into it

The Stalking section is the semi-luck based puzzle- you pick a time segment of the victim's schedule to try reveal with seemingly semi-randomised options with differing levels of difficulty vs risk (i.e. typically the safer option is less likely to reveal the time slot) and you have to balance this with a time limit and detection levels. The issue here is there seems to be no variance in schedules between tries, so if you do fail the puzzle one way or another you as a player know what will be in each time slot so while you will be able to gather more info on their life which you have to interoperate yourself but is ultimately pointless because of the next section

The last section is the ritual- This is a quiz, a "punch a hole in the answer" sheet of paper dressed up (very well) as an open chest theres two big issues with this for me here, the first issue is There is no variance in the questions asked, so the second you realise this it cuts out a lot of the appeal and mystery of the stalking as you dont need to "learn" the person, just the answers to these unchanging checklist questions, it seems like it would be better open to interpretation questions similar to Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes where there is slightly open ended or obscured solutions (The most this sticks to is breaking 3 ribs or "Remove X Or Y" more so a follow up issue but slightly more understandable given how the game is When you start the ritual you cant double check their schedule, which you would think would encourage you to for example take notes IRL or in notepad, however that completely undermines the whole game as again, no schedules changed in the time I played so I would just be undermining the whole stalking section even more by just writing down the answers.

I thought this looked very interesting and might have had a bit more depth in the investigation section although that was my assumption and having the illusion shattered kind of undercuts the whole idea of the game for me

There also seems to be an endless mode which I would assume fix at least one or two of the issues ive raised but I cant really bring myself to finish the main game to see if this is the case which sucks- however I will certainly be checking out some of the dev's other works as I feel like this is just a slight miss when the story presentation and atmosphere hit so well

More like Life Waster. This game feels like it was meant to be something else and they ran out of money or time to do anything interesting. The puzzles are terribly boring with most of the things not having anything to do with what you find out. The story was incredibly boring, and painfully predictable. It could have been something so interesting, and was just terrible...
