vh0.7.0 - VH OSC Starter Pack! (2025-05-13)

Update Summary:
This update adds the long-awaited OSC chatbox and avatar parameter integrations! Proudly display to your friends in VR what game you are playing, or add a prop to your avatar that toggles with the handheld overlay! This update also introduces bug fixes, as well as an updated settings UI.

NEW OSC Chatbox:
+Display to your friends in VR that you are Playing on Virtual Handheld
+Share the title of the game you are currently playing on VH, with options on where to get the window title from and when it gets updated
+Preview the message that will be sent through the chatbox before applying, or have it be automatically updated on loop

NEW OSC Avatar Parameters:
+Includes various parameters that you can add to your virtual avatar for controlling animation, toggling props, swapping materials, etc.
+View the parameters' names, types, and values in the "Avatar" tab in the OSC Menu
+For advanced users, you can change the names of parameters on the right-hand side of the "osc_config" text file, which can be accessed via the "Show Advanced..." toggle in the "OSC" tab and pressing the "Open VH OSC Config Directory" button. You can also disable parameters by setting their name to empty ("") or null (without quotations).

VH Settings:
+Added "pulled out" action to menu tabs, making it more obvious which tabs are selected
+Added newly stylized transparent background to make the sidebar menu tabs appear to hang off the edge
+Added panels in various places for better text readability

Bindings Menu:
+Added footnote to Oculus Layout for Thumbrests: "This input is not available on Quest 1/Rift S"
*Updated explanations for VR controller sets and how to edit bindings

About Page:
+Added new artwork by Projekt Neoverse of VH mascot DJ Frog, inspired by the music video from Rollthered
+Added scrolling animation to credits
*Reworked the text and layout for clarity and readability

Fixes, Optimization & Misc.:
+Added Legal.txt file with disclaimer(s) plus free and open source license attribution (This is the same text as the EULA you now have to agree to before using VH)
*"In-focus (on top) window" had been replaced with Foreground Window, which is the window receiving input rather than being on top of the z-order. This fixes an issue where window/desktop overlay apps (such as the Discord overlay) would appear as being played instead of the actual game.
*Fixed bug where pressing the "Go Back" button below the "SteamVR Bindings UI" message would always take you back to the Bindings Menu. Now if you press the "Configure..." button next to "Enable Input Actions" in the General Menu, it will take you back to the correct menu.
*Fixed VR controller type in Bindings Menu still being updated when "Automatically update VR controller type on connect" is disabled
*Changed VR Resolution Scale notice to inform the user to make sure to toggle off the handheld before exiting VH to ensure that user settings are properly restored
*Atlased some of the sprites/UI graphics for better optimization

Virtual Handheld

"psvr2 adapter not supported"

Could someone explain why this is? The psvr2 is a native steamvr headset like the index or vive, so I'm confused as to why and how it would just not work. If it really doesn't work for whatever reason, is this issue actually being addressed?

VH OSC Beta 3.2 (2025-05-11)

Beta Update Summary:
Release Candidate 2, here we go! I may have gotten carried away with these last-minute touch-ups, but I hope you'll like the changes. Some bug fixes were also made to this pre-release update.

VH Settings:
+Added new artwork by Projekt Neoverse of VH mascot DJ Frog to the About page
*Changed menu background to leave transparency around the edges of the overlay and allow the left side tabs to appear to hang off the edge for aesthetics (some UI elements had to be shifted slightly to accommodate this change, but everything should still work)
*Changed VR Resolution Scale notice to inform the user to make sure to toggle off the handheld before exiting VH to ensure that user settings are properly restored
*Updated the Bindings menu explanation text to be clearer and easier to read and understand
*Reworked About page with panels, scrolling credits, clearer text and new artwork (Technical note: The background image and stickers have been put together into a sprite atlas and then crunch compressed for optimization, using up less memory and fewer draw calls! Also, the About page is only instantiated in the scene when the About menu is selected.)

Input & Devices:
*Fixed bug where trackpad inputs wouldn't register if Pad Touch Mode was disabled (unless one were to slide their thumb while pressing on the trackpad)
*Fixed the "Automatically update VR controller type on connect" toggle doing nothing

OSC Chatbox:
*Fixed issue where chatbox would linger after the VH application closes if quit while the chatbox is active
*Increased message cooldown time from 1 second to 1.2 seconds to prevent rate limiting. This prevents an issue where the chatbox sometimes doesn't get hidden when toggling off the handheld. (This also increases the minimum Chatbox Loop Time.)

OSC Avatar Parameters:
*The "Handheld_On" parameter now gets set to false when the VH application closes, disappearing the user's handheld prop where applicable

Legal:
+Added Legal.txt file with disclaimer(s) plus free and open source license attribution (This is the same text as the EULA you now have to agree to before using VH)

VH OSC Beta 3.1 (2025-05-06)

Beta Update Summary:
Release candidate for vh0.7! This beta build fixes a lot of issues and cleans up a lot of small details to get things ready for release.

Overlay Indicators:
*Fixed overlay indicator icon placement being incorrect in any aspect ratio other than 16:9
*Fixed chatbox overlay indicator not showing up when toggling the handheld rapidly
*Fiddled around with the size and scale to get better pixel scaling. (Moved the trackpad input indicators up slightly to make room for the adjusted scale)

Settings Menu UI:
+Tabs will now be "pulled out" when selected, visually indicating the selected tab
+Added "Reset File" icon, used for the "Reset OSC Config File" button
*Fixed bug where pressing the "Go Back" button below the "SteamVR Bindings UI" message would always take you back to the Bindings Menu. Now if you press the "Configure..." button next to "Enable Input Actions" in the General Menu, it will take you back to the correct menu.

*Adjusted orthographic camera size to make pixel scaling less, err... weird.

Window Title Capture:
*Replaced "Focused Window"/"in-focus (on top) window" (which was actually the topmost window in the z-order) with the Foreground Window from the Windows API. This fixes an issue where desktop/window overlay apps (such as the Discord Overlay) would appear as the "in-focus" window instead of the actual window that is receiving input, i.e. the game that you are playing.

Avatar Parameters:
+Added count for the number of disabled parameters to the end of the parameter list if any of them have been disabled
+Added note for advanced users on how to change parameter names if no parameters have been disabled
+Added colors to the parameter list to make different kinds of information more visually distinct
*The parameter list will now be greyed out when OSC and/or OSC avatar parameters are disabled
*Initialized the value of parameters that previously started as "Undefined"
*As a small optimization, parameters that are manually disabled by setting the parameter name to empty ("") or null will no longer be added to the parameter list.
*Small optimization where the parameter list text won't get refreshed if the Avatar tab isn't selected
*Fixed issue where the "Handheld_On" parameter wouldn't be updated if OSC was disabled

Issue with First person games + multiple monitors

with mouse input my mouse keeps scrolling over to another monitor or window and starts to input in there while looking around in a first person game, not sure what to do to fix. I have very limited knowledge when it comes to programming stuff but I would think a way to lock your mouse to a window like it does in risk of rain 2 but for your chosen window would be great, I dont really know how any of that works though...

Does this app work well with steam link? I'd love to use it with my steam deck streaming so I can play anything with no performance impact. My dream for this would be a clean seamless way to play my steam deck in social VR.

Control switching?

I know the app takes control when you spawn it. Have you used Desktop+? It only has control change when your hand is close to the overlay and aiming at it. It's very convenient, I often put my hand around the overlay to quickly do something while still reading my monitor. It would be nice to be able to take your hands away from the overlay to do something without closing it....
