Put in the code from the paper, nothing happens. Confirmed with the walkthrough the code is correct, but it doesn't do anything. Did I miss something?

where is a clue for which buttons to press on the door leading to the diamond??

After solving the parrot room puzzle I went to return to the first mates room with the key obtained from the parrot. Just before i entered the first mates room the entire screen switched to some sort of over colorized gold/yellow tint throughout the entire screen. this distortion carried on throughout the rest of the ship. it is annoying and probably will prevent me from seeing objects and completing the game. any advice to resolve this issue??...
