A very focused arcadey game with awesome aesthetics

This game is great in that it has a vision, and it executes that vision extremely neatly. There's no bloat here, and the game has an impressive grasp on which areas it has to focus.
It has an interesting mix of tower defense/pikmin/hack and slash combat, which kind of had me remembering Little King's Story.
Pacing is amazing, and it is easy to get into a flow of mission - upgrades - boss - upgrades - mission - etc. Missions are also very arcade like, in the sense that you jump into one, get it done in about half an hour, and cool down in the upgrade hub for a bit.
The art direction is also a highlight. Everything looks like a small handicrafted diorama, and characters do huge, choreographed moves for their attacks that look like traditional japanese dances.
A great soundtrack tops this off, in particular the boss themes, which get pretty wild. One of them goes full on jazz fusion at one point, and it rocks.
The writing, while minimal, also does a good job in setting the tone - mystical, atemporal japanese fare

All in all, while it might be somewhat expensive for what are 13~20 hours of game, this is a premium experience, and I feel it's worth the price to take a look.
