This game is really cool and interesting, but not worth almost 20$. It's a 5$-8$ game at best (maybe even free if I have to be honest). I feel ripped off even though it's an enjoyable game, which is sad. Or, for 20 bucks it has to go back into the oven for more dev time.

Combat is clunky because the enemy animations aren't really telegraphed and taking or giving damage isn't very apparent. Everything is spongy and doesn't react so it feels like I'm making imaginary action figures fight.

The level design is... bizarre. Rooms are clearly randomly generated and while I haven't run into any game breaking rooms there are still just a bunch of dead zones, like a maze of walls with spikes that serve no purpose. The idea of using kicks to do trap damage is fine and interesting, but their placement is clumsy.

At least early on, spells using life is incredibly restrictive considering how valuable life is as a resource. This could improve but for now it made spells a dead mechanic for me. The most I've used is a weapon damage increase spell that I had to time around health pickups. That's fine and dandy in a game that has a variety of roguelite mechanics working in tandem, but this isn't one. You have weapons and flat stat change rings with some chaotic effects. That means the vast majority of combat is spamming shield and attack and looking for good rings to enable a successful run of any kind. Spells are an occasional thing you do with a lot of setup.

The game is aesthetically great, and has a great vibe. A good analogy would be a musician putting out an incredible demo prior to getting a record deal, but in this case the demos were just released as the record, if that makes any sense.

Really this feels like a student project from someone who has good artistic inclinations, not a $20 game that's competing with other indies like Lunacid, Souldiers, HK, etc.

Last note - the notes thing is a great throwback idea but the blood really ♥♥♥♥♥ with my dyslexia. I get the appeal but that's not super accessible.
