I have understood nothing. 10/10.

That Which Gave Chase had so much potential. Its presentation feels more like a cinematic experience than a traditional game, and the atmosphere is undeniably strong. However, it ultimately falls flat by being overly cryptic without delivering the payoff that such an approach requires.

The game leans heavily into its artistic, almost avant-garde style, which isn’t inherently bad... but it sacrifices coherence for depth. After finishing, I wasn’t left with a sense of resolution, but instead a frustrating feeling of, "Wait, that’s it?" It feels like I missed some key information to make sense of the ending, but even after reflecting on it, the pieces just don’t come together.

Mechanically, the game is simple, and while that works for its artistic intentions, it just isn’t engaging enough to elevate the experience. The deeper themes and mysteries it teases are interesting but ultimately fail to come together in a way that feels satisfying. Instead of being profound, it feels incomplete.

This review isn’t to say the game is bad. It’s not. But when Steam asks, "Would you recommend this game?" I have to say no. I can’t think of anyone who would genuinely enjoy the experience without feeling like it was a waste of time. For me, it was a missed opportunity: an intriguing concept that didn’t quite stick the landing. With more clarity or a stronger narrative, this could have been something great.

Lost, confused. Unsure of myself. Trusting my guide. I grew close to my only companions - my dogs. They provided me comfort when none was to be found.
