I've only played a bit, but I quite like he graphical style. The game takes quite a bit of getting used to as it has a lot of needless quirks - important upgrades to your AI buddy that let them collect items for you are hidden in the controls option menu, for example, which makes no sense. The default control scheme on M+K is almost malicious garbage, with ESC hard-coded to self-destruct and abort your run instead of being pause like it is in every other game. The mouse by default controls the camera instead of aiming and it's terrible. Shift and Space, the buttons you'd expect to be your dash and jump, don't do that. You basically need to redo the entire control scheme yourself, and even on gamepad I don't know why it offers a "melee" and "ranged" control scheme when you need to use both types of weapons based on what drops in a run - you should always use ranged so you can actually aim while you're attacking, which is just as useful with melee.

The menus don't explain themselves well either, and so it can be hard to understand what the stats mean. You change areas when you go near a door by default, which makes sense at first except you can't go back, so it's extremely easy during a fight to accidentally change your area and lose out on loot or even more infuriatingly abandon a boss you were just about to kill - but it's just as etting you can toggle in the menu to instead make it require a button press to confirm. Basically everything in the game has the worst possible default values, like players told them what they *should* have done during playtesting and instead of just listening to their advice they made it a toggle instead.

Performance is pretty bad on the Steam Deck, which might surprise you given the pixel aesthetic. A lot of the time the game will just have slightly too many enemy stragglers that won't provide a challenge but will interrupt you trying to swap around your mech parts, when the game could probably get away with having enemies regroup in order to give you some space to interact with stuff in the environment.

The story's gibberish, throwing out unnecessary Proper Nouns (I strongly suspect the story won't go anywhere with calling the robots Labor) and taking up more time than the strength of its writing really merits, there's a robot companion who doesn't really need to be there (plenty of ways to auto-collect loot) but serves to confuse you since it looks very much like an enemy wasting your weapon durability

But underneath all of the poor UX is a fun game with a fantastic artstyle and great gameplay. Your mechs are made of one of four part types and can be combined freely - most heads give you two slots for a left and right weapon, some give you no slots in exchagne for a built-in weapon, others give you four slots that you swap between with your special button, others grant you a special weapon with that same button. Using two of the same weapon grants you a stronger attack where you dual wield both, but then you lose out on versatility - unless you use a four slot head. But weapon durability means you need to make due with what you find, so you can't necessarily have a perfect setup. Combat can get surprisingly agile, and the fights against evenly matched mechs can be really fun as you try to dodge their attacks and then punish their whiffs while not overcommitting and getting punished yourself.

I have quite a lot of gripes in the few hours I've played, but hopefully these are problems that can be fixed with an updates, and many of them are problems that you personally can fix by just using more sane settings (though get used to having a minor heart attack every time you go to pause and forget it's Tab and not ESC, can't fix that yourself). It's just a really pretty game with cool robots with a decent amount of customization.

I like the idea of this game. I had a problem though. The camera actually made my eyes feel a discomfort I have never felt before in my life. It caused eye strain and a strange sense of uneasiness that I actually am unable to articulate. After about an hour I had could no longer handle it. I had to refund the game, really bummed me out because I was very much looking forward to this game. I'd be curious if anyone else had this issue and if it can be fixed as I would repurchase the game.

Newbie reviewer here, For you likes mecha games, this provide many guns for your mech. For me its mix the parts / guns for my mech, to encounter leveled up enemies, for each stage.

Good pixel display, smooth battle, each gun parts have special skill, skilled enemy mech.

Worth to play, 10/10
