I bought Pioneers of Pagonia in may of this year and immediately fell in love with it. Being able to play it with my friends made it even better. So in the beginning I played it a lot and would have rated it 10/10. After that I came back to it every couple of months to check out the new content and changes made to the game. Some of them I was really excited about but the ones made in regards of how the game progressed unfortunately made my gaming experience worse. Being so restricted in terms of buildings at the start just caused too many annoying issues for me to consider it as a good way to make the game more complex. To name a few examples: At the start you can only build a woodcutter but no forester, which made it impossible for me to keep the forest I originally planned to incorporate visually; not being able to build a farm, a fishing hut or a hunting lodge makes you completely dependent on resources that can be gathered by the foragers, which in my case where only raspberries that ran out quickly, leading to my settlers not reproducing at all; speaking of foragers, to complete the cloth quest you need to find flax, which took me 2,5 hours (and a guard tower) as it was not close at all; not to mention all the thieve raids I had to suffer during that time, which I also couldn’t really fight against well, because I had no food, not enough people to recruit and no access to any higher military yet.
So in general even though the developers added a lot, it didn’t feel like the game improved, my personal playing experience actually worsened. I get the idea of unlocking buildings by progress, but it has to be done in a way where the resources available at the beginning make said progress possible. Having to desperately search for flax and food for 2,5 hours wasn’t fun. When I ran out of raspberries I thought mhm maybe build a fishing hut, but no you need fishing rods for that, which in turn need rope, which is made out of flax, which as mentioned wasn’t available to me until much later, same thing with the hunting lodge. I constantly had to make buildings inactive to have workers available and make the search for flax with the very limited rations possible.
I really don’t wanna give a thumbs down, but until the progression process is smoothened I sadly can’t really recommend Pioneers of Pagonia.

I purchased this game when it launched but have never really gotten into it - I find it just too boring. The maps are too small, the buildings are too big and there's no real sense of involvement. I loved the Settlers and thought that this would scratch that settlers itch - but it don't even come close. Rarely play it now, give it a look every time there's an update, but it is still boring.

The game is already in a very good state, with different challengens from every map. Comnined with the community generated maps the replayability is extremly high without becoming too repetitive.
