For starters, this game is way overpriced for what you get. Second - got lots of bugs and issues that are more painfull to deal with the more you go.

The biggest issue with this game is RNG. The whole game is build around it and... the rng is bad. What means bad? that if you roll number 1-10, you will never see roll of 6+ and the average will be around 3 (rather below than above).

there is equipment to buy to improve your turtle... but it is random. so basically first you roll wich type of equipment you got (main cannon, sub cannon, shield, turret and so on), next is rarity and power.... add to it bad RNG and... it turn out rather useles.

after ascending you got mutations, wich not only are rather weak, they are also randomized, sumarize that and you realize your ascention are a joke.

equipment.... each got stats, and power. That means stats are how the power is distributed. or rather it should be, but it is not. basically you have no idea from the stats if the new piece of equipment is better or worse than the one you got.

skills... funny thing... each unit can have some skills that you can unlock, to unlock second you need to unlock first nad so on. does not sounds bad unless... unless you have no idea what the skills will do. You only got skill name. Is it worth investing points in previous skills? are there some better and some other worse? wich to prioritise? no info at all.

one if the biggest "game features" are the fixes that devs do. always fixing half way or messing something else making the whole fix defect.
examples:
*there was bug with auto play. It reseted constantly on / of during your death / ascention / starting new game.
it was fixed but not the camera, so basically you need to switch the auto battle off and on to reset the camera. so not much "improvement" here.
*for unknown reasons auto buy feature does not buy cheapest upgrades but random ones (did i mentioned that RNG is bad in this game?). Devs added the option to buy cheapest but... messed war supplies so it only goes to your turtle leaving your troops wery weakned without boost. so again it is but it is useles....

next is offline progres. the game does amazng job at it. althou there is offline progress it is meaningless. you earn money based on wave of monsters. and that means that if you play and beat couple of waves you will earn more than you wil earin after several hours offline.

So I used to play this on my phone all the time. I absolutely loved it. I don't even care how many hours I dumped into it, leaving it running on my phone while I was working, occasionally looking over to my turtle marching to victory, buying a few upgrades and then returning to work.

Imagine my joy when I discovered that the game was not only available on Steam, but available as a single-purchase game with no microtransactions. Normally I wait for games to go on sale but I bought this one right away.

So the idea is simple. You have a turtle decked out with racks of weapons - series of light weapons, medium weapons, large gun barrels.. covered with armor... and you march all over the world, blasting animal enemies into oblivion as you make your slow march to victory. You are joined by all your soldier animal friends, from Hamster Commandos to the 'Sparrow Squadron' to the deadly Artillery Beetles. You quickly gather together a formidable animal army, comprised of adorable little machine gun-wielding animals, and endlessly fight, becoming stronger little by little.

This IS one of those idle/incremental games, so the gameplay is somewhat similar to others in the genre: you start off, not getting very far, dying, and restarting, but with a little bit of a bonus for your second playthrough. The next time, you do a little better, get a little bit stronger, and make it a little further... before dying, resetting, getting a little stronger, and trying again.

The thing that sets this game apart, from a functional point of view, is that it can be just as active or idle as you like. You can really pay attention and be deeply active, or, as I said before, you can just let your turtle march onward as you work, occasionally buying a few upgrades here and there. There are also some very active 'mini games,' such as fishing and 'adventure mode,' that are very active - when I really want to sit down and really PLAY the game, I'll march on over to a pond or adventure field and try my best to earn some great turtle loot. Then, once it's time to get back to work, start the turtle marching on to idle locations. In this way, you can really PLAY the game when you'd like, and just idle-grind when you can't.

The other thing that really sets War Tortoise apart from other idle/incrementals is just the sheer amount of CONTENT. This is NOT your typical idle game where you've got a few buttons for upgrades, a menu for persistent upgrades, and maybe a couple other novelty menus to spice it up. War Tortoise has about a thousand little aspects you can manage, each aspect with its own massive arsenal of items, loot, weapons, etc. You've got your standard upgrade screens (not only for upgrading the various aspects of your Tortoise but also the animal army), but also menus for all the weapons and armor (of which there are a TON), one for mutations, one for fishing, one for adventures, one for 'Pilots,' one for 'Heroes,' and it just goes on and on. You can upgrade just about anything you can imagine, and there are just TONS of different weapons, armor, and the like to collect, upgrade, fuse, recycle, or whatever. It's absolutely amazing just how much stinking CONTENT there is in this game, and all the different ways you can interact with that content. Again - this is NOT your standard idle game. It will take you a while to get everything figured out, and even then, you're going to wind up spending time digging through stuff just to figure out what the best combos as going to be. SO cool.

Add to that the fact that this is just... such a FUN game to watch. It's absolutely absurd... the Tortoise marching ever onward, looking like a porcupine with all the weapons barrels sticking out and firing nonstop, adorable animals running around risking their lives in deadly combat, firing missiles and guns and artillery, swinging blades, digging in the mud for resources, you name it. As you travel through the various biomes the background updates. The graphics are so much fun to watch. The war, with all of its fascinating details - bullets, explosions, flares, all of it - is absolutely fascinating to watch. My problem is that sometimes, while I'm working, I'll glance over at the screen... and if I'm not careful, I'll just wind up watching the war for a while. It's absolutely hilarious, and hypnotizing, at the same time.

The PC port is fantastic. As stated, all the microtransactions are gone, and the developers put a lot of work into making it work around that concept. The removal of microtransactions might be a problem if they were just 'taken away' - eg., a lot of idle games give you very slow progress without the little purchases, so if you were to just 'remove' those purchases, you would barely make any progress at all. The developers of War Tortoise made sure this would not happen with this game - yes, they took away all those little microtransactions, but in their place they put a bunch of little bonuses, so the progress isn't painfully slow. The result is a game which originally was centered around all of these little purchases being turned into a steady-progression PC port which is not the least bit frustrating to play. One payment to buy the game, and you'll play it just fine as if you were making the occasional purchase on the mobile game. Fantastic.

Overall, I am just so happy I found this, and that I bought it pretty much soon as I found it. I DO NOT regret having bought it full price, so I can say for sure that the game is worth full price.I have just as much fun with the Steam version as I did on mobile. So from top to bottom, this is a FANTASTIC game, VERY in depth for an idle/incremental, wonderful variety between idle/active, and overall one of the best in the genre that I have played.

Now, I must return to the game for now, and begin again my slow march to victory...

I hope the developers see this.

This is a very fun, brain dead simple game. The art is great, it's really good. However, there is a terrible design flaw in the game.

after about 10 runs, your turtle is dealing 98% to 99% of your damage. None of the summoned minions can even compete once the turtle has all it's guns.

So since war supplies are random, summoning any minion other than the economic ones is a huge mistake. If you summon no minions, every war supply is for the turtle. If you summon the minions, you will get war supplies for the minions mostly and not the turtle. The minion war supply upgrades are meaningless, even with huge bonuses, the turtle still does 99% of your damage.

the best strategy is to never summon minions except for the economic ones. This is really disappointing. The minons are really cool, but they're worse than useless.

please fix this somehow.
