Absolutely would recommend this game to others and have! I'm excited to see what they add as time goes on but even as it is, it's perfect to help keep me on task while working from home as an artist.

The potential of Spirit City is immense but in its current state I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a productivity or study aid. While the adjustment of noises to create a custom soundscape, on top of some excellent in-game music, this idle game lacks most fundamental tools that others in the genre have. For example:

-You can set a timer but it cannot run indefinitely, max 5 repeats, and if you work well using the POMODORO technique you'll have to self manage.
-No way to have ongoing projects and no way to assign a timer to them if you could. Users will have to micro-manage a rudimentary checkbox list. So unlike other productivity apps you have no way of reviewing how much time a task took you, all of that is dependent for you to write down in the journal.
-Ironically you cannot check your own "activity", while other apps in this genre keep data to help you review the work you've been putting in Spirit City offers no such luck. Making it useless for those of us who use this information to set rates/deadlines.

I won't return the game because it is very nice to have a work buddy but I feel like as it is now Spirit City is more an interactive background than a tool to help students/freelancers. Still, I am rooting for this "game" I really feel like this has the pulse on something special and could become as ubiquitous to creators as Lo Fi study girl herself. I would love to see in the future updates:

-Addressing the issues outlined above
-Allowing the creation of projects, not just "tasks". For instance I can create a project for "Publisher " with tasks inside of it like "[x] revise manuscript (1hr30min)" and a timer set to either the entire group (or better yet each task!)
-Calendar's that can be integrated with someones google or microsoft accounts allowing for ease of deadlines.
-Personal tracking at least of what times users use the app to help them set realistic goals and schedules.

TLDR: I WANT Spirit city to become my go-to recommendation for productivity tool, but because it lacks features MOST productivity/study tools have I cannot.

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions is less a game and more of a productivity tool with gamified elements. You have in-game to-do lists that you can freely customize, an in-game timer function, and a nice selection of low-key music and relaxing ambient noise. The game elements are that you get experience points for spending time in the game and using its built-in functions daily, with leveling up rewarding you with in-game currency to spend on customization items for your avatar and room, as well as completing passive objectives to unlock new pet options. It's humble in scope, but I've found it works for me for focusing on the task at hand and making sure I do so regularly. Perhaps the in-game pet options could have a few less-fantastical options, but that's a small nitpick and only a matter of personal taste. I got more or less what I wanted from this game and will continue to "play" it for the foreseeable future, and I'm looking forward to future updates.
