What balls actually work?

I'm 5 hours in, probably done 30 or 40 runs so far. Haven't won a single "fast" first stage, finished normal first stage on the 4 characters I've unlocked. Can't get anywhere close to beating the second stage. Feels like I'm doing nothing at all with every attempt. What beginning balls actually do the damage necessary to win?...

the warrior needs a unlockable passive

all the other characters have a unlockable passive given to them at level 4. While their gimmick is the absence of a gimmick, they probably should have something to encourage use besides the completion bonus. something simple that boosts early game but falls off mid to late game. soldier collects 25/35/40% more materials from mines/lumberjacks/farm when stationed there. they have no house, that is now there permanent residence...

Who would have thought a roguelite that is part brick breaker, part city builder and part Tetris could be so damn fun?

It has a relatively fun gameplay loop which can keep you entertained for hours at a time (or all night if you suffer from 'one more round-itus') It's not too challenging so it's a great game to kick back and relax with. Music is actually pretty good so I'm not always throwing it on mute to listen to things on the side.

Has a great cast of characters who all come with their own quirks and require different playstyles. It stops things feeling stale when they aren't all reskinned copies of each other with different weapons. There's actually a lot of thought and creativity put into making them pretty unique to play

BALL x PIT is getting three new content updates in 2026!

We’re delighted to announce that 1,000,000 seekers have played BALL x PIT since launch, and you know what that means: Kenny has to make more BALL x PIT.

We will be releasing three – that’s right, THREE – new content updates in 2026, FREE for anyone who owns the game, and each update will bring:

NEW BALLS

NEW EVOLUTIONS

NEW BUILDINGS

NEW CHARACTERS

AND MORE!

In January, raise your pinky for the Regal update.

In April, slink into the darkness for the Shadow update.

Then get back to basics in July with the Naturalist update.

If you’re one of the many players hopelessly hooked on BALL x PIT, then brace yourself for a whole lot more of everything you love.

Just when you thought you were out, we pull you back in.

We’ll have more information about the first of these free updates in the very near future, but until then, get back in the pit: you got balls to fuse.

Which properties get passed down from Fusions?

Wish there was a way to preview results from fusions. I've heard about combining Overgrowth with full-screen dps like Flicker/Flash/Sun. Since Magma is a quake evolution like Overgrowth, I tried a variation by combining Magma with Flicker and expecting screen-wide Magma. What I got instead is that Magma's AoE instead deals Flicker damage on top. Very underwhelming....

Did not hook me in. Cleared a few runs with different characters but even with the progression system most runs felt very similar, with the same items being offered over and over. There is very little variety. I didn't catch the gameplay nuances either, success seems mostly tied to the DPS you can get from your items combination and not much more. The only decision making you do other than the limited item selection is choosing what angle to aim your balls at.
The farming mini-game is tedious and completely orthogonal to the core gameplay of ball juggling.
Not a bad game but disappointing considering the overwhelmingly positive ratings in a genre I usually love and yet it still couldn't grab my attention.
