Why doesn't every game have FSR 3 with Frame Gen!?

I have a 3090 so I never really got to experience Frame Gen. It literally doubled my EXP in this game from using regular old DLSS. Honest question, why does only this game really have this feature? This really pisses me off because clearly this can be done software wise and Nvidia decided not to do so....

I mostly never write reviews because I typically don't ever care. This game is one of the few games I'd consider "original" in a long time in the fps genre. The game combat loop itself is very unorthodox and requires you to dodge constantly or shield and then run if you are overwhelmed. I miss the days of old single-player titles and this scratches that itch that many fps titles haven't in a long time for me. It is slow in the beginning so give it time but it is well worth it.

Immortals of Aveum is a tough game to love. I mean it has a lot of merits, but its shortcomings makes it a game that you can appreciate, but not like or love.

THE PERFORMANCE: Kudos to the studio that still have the demo available to check if you can run it or not. My hardware is below the minimum specs but I could run it at about 40-50 fps in 1080p with DLSS. The game could fall to 30fps in more tense battles, but overall it was a decent experience.

I want to talk about the main problem of Immortals of Aveum, that probably was the first and final nail in the coffin. The writers, devs and directors haven't the heard the rule "Less is More". If they had 90% of the problems would have been fixed immediately and the game would fare a ton better. Everywhere in Aveum is this overabundance that hurts the game so much, it's painful to watch.

Overabundance with the graphics: The game is beautiful and the UE5 really shows here. But there is an overabundance of assets and items in each area, that hinders the experience. Most notably, there are so many things in your screen ALL THE TIME, that you can't pinpoint the enemies. The greatest challenge of combat is to actually see where your enemies are, because there is a ton of other assets that distract you and confuse you. Is more of a "finding waldo" game than an actual shooter.

Overabundance with combat systems: So you have 3 main weapons (the sigils), 3 secondary utility spells (the totems), 6 other abilities that are on cooldown, a melee attack and an ultimate attack. 14 different ways to attack. Having this amount of choice is good IF it was actually a choice. But the game wants to use YOUR WHOLE ARSENAL of weapons, so it divides them into three colors and makes each color mandatory to kill the enemy of the same colour.

So, get this. You are in a battle. It's impossible to pinpoint your enemies because of the amount of assets on screen. Once you locate one, you have to discern which color of weapon is suitable for them, and then shoot. But you locate another enemy, you shoot him, but instead of green, he is a red enemy, so you don't do any damage, so you have to rotate to your red weapon and use your red abilities, but then a blue one comes in. You get the gist. The combat is 40% locate the enemy, 40% rotate through your weapons and 20% actual blasting.

Overabundance of story. Immortals of Aveum suffers from the multitude of lore, info and story that has to pour into the game. It's just too much, unnecessarily. There is this everwar between two factions, but then there is this third faction, and then there are these otherwordly creatures, and there are the immortals and then there are the lightless and then there is the Wound that destroys the World and then there is this Pentacade for some reason, and also an old civilization of Aristeya.

So the game just throws you info and lore, without actually delving deeper into that. A character appears for 20 minutes and suddenly becomes a main character. A country is referred and then it is never mentioned again. And they all had potential. The Oremen and the Aelori, the Everwar and the Wound, all have interesting potential. But it is like that they tried to fit the Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion into ONE BOOK.

The characters are not fleshed out, except the protagonist and a couple of others. The villain is a joke. They portrayed him as mad, but then they tried to give him some motive, and then opted the madman choice again. It lacks cohesion, consequence, it is all over the place unnecessarily. Important parallels are drawn but never addressed properly. Magic destroying the world, the madness of militarism, racism and elitism are mentioned, but never fully explored or addressed. The game just tells and never shows, because it doesn't have the time to do it.

The tone of voice: It is totally Josh Wheadon style. All the characters are this sarcastic marvelesque heroes that can't take anything seriously. It kinda works only to show contrast when the characters speak seriously, to give it more gravitas. But they could definitely take it down a notch or two, because having a war that draws out for decades and the end of the world coming at any moment is not a topic that you could make fun of.

So LESS IS MORE. Less systems would make a funnier experience with the battle and the combat. Less graphics on screen it would make it more beautiful and more efficient. Less but deeper story would be better for fleshing out the characters. Tell a smaller story, but use its full potential. Instead the game just threw all of its ideas at once and while I can appreciate all of them, nothing stuck at the end, because the game abandons one idea, to jump quickly to the other.

Its fun ... it has some flaws in the performance sector, that they compensate with fsr3 and frame gen so im ok with that right now ... im gonna keep it simple .. level design metroidvania style.. gameplay revolves around magic but at the same time you use it as guns with, extra spells and totems (more extra spells) for more spice , so the "magegunplay" it would be doom like, it can be very fun and flashy.. i like the mix they tried to pull, lets call it medievalmagepunk heheh ... the story so far keeps me interested... its a good game with its flaws ... get it on a nice sale ..

How in the world did this game only get 751 concurrent users only

As the title says. I am stunned that this game only got 751 users. The game is not bad. I've played worse. But a game of this magnitude with only that many concurrent users is a travesty.

Immortals of Aveum – PC Update 1.0.6.3 Release Notes

Hey there, Battlemages.

A small PC update on April 5th brings quality of life and upscaling improvements. Stay tuned for more info on HDR for PC and FSR 3 updates for all platforms coming soon.

Key Fixes:

On PC, we’ve made improvements to temporal upscaling and reduced instances of ghosting
On PC, we’ve made a small quality of life adjustment to the mouse sensitivity and mouse smoothing default settings based on player feedback
The mouse sensitivity value will default to 0.25 instead of 0.5
Mouse smoothing will be set to ‘off’ by default
Addressed minor bugs and progression issues
Addressed instances of occasional crashes

HDR & AMD FSR 3 Updates are Coming to Immortals of Aveum!

Wondering what the studio has been up to these last few months? Well, not only are we hard at work on our next project (shhhhh!....), we’re also continuing to work on improving Immortals of Aveum™ so that more players can enjoy it to the fullest. That means two big updates are coming your way: HDR (high dynamic range) support on all platforms, and thanks to our incredibly talented partners at Enduring Games[enduring.games], IOA will be the first game to rollout AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) with frame generation on consoles!

Huge thanks to YOU, our incredible community, for all the support, suggestions, bug reports, and for taking the time to play and chat about Immortals. Your feedback makes it possible for us to share some big news about the next Immortals of Aveum updates!

Before we get to that, there’s even more we’ve been up to...

Magically made us blush

We’re honored to receive the NAVGTR award for Best Art Direction in a fantasy game! We’re so proud of our team for all of the work, talent, and dedication they put into IOA to be recognized with seven NAVGTR nominations, as well as a nomination for “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Real-Time Project” by the Visual Effects Society. And of course, a big thank you to all the NAVGTR and VES members and voters for considering IOA as a contender among such an incredible lineup of games in 2023.

Playing is Believing

As we approach the one year anniversary of Immortals of Aveum’s big reveal in April 2023, we wanted to take a moment to express our appreciation for the players, press, creators, fellow developers and colleagues who’ve joined us on this journey so far. It’s no small feat to build a new studio and original IP game, using a new game engine, and with significantly less budget than the average AAA game, all in five years. While you probably already know that our launch didn’t have the initial commercial impact we hoped for, y’all have shown us tremendous support through your comments and messages, by referring friends, and swapping expert advice.

And it shows. Immortals of Aveum’s purchase rate for people who played the demo is 2-3x higher than EA’s average on their other game demos. We’re grateful for an average 82% user score across digital storefronts. Players getting hands-on with Immortals and sharing their experiences validates our belief that playing is believing.

It hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows, game development never is. Yet we’re optimistic about the future, and hopeful that as folks play through their backlog of games they discover Immortals of Aveum. Which brings us to the latest game updates…

HDR is Coming to Immortals of Aveum on PC Soon

Releasing TODAY, Patch 1.0.6.3 brings HDR (high dynamic range) to Immortals of Aveum on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. HDR support for PC is on the way soon in a future update. Aveum’s stunning environments, unfettered magic, and battle-hardened denizens take on new life in HDR with deeper shadows, brighter highlights, and more vibrant colors. We’re pleased to announce that this long-awaited, highly requested update is available for all Immortals players today. Read the patch notes here.

Bringing HDR to IOA was something our team felt very passionate about. We wanted to provide players with gorgeous HDR visuals, and that meant taking the time to do it right. Once HDR became available in Unreal Engine 5, our team set to work to get Immortals of Aveum updated… then we hit a snag in our Caldera level. Although Aveum is brimming with magic, turning on HDR didn’t magically make everything look the way we wanted it to. Caldera needed some extra love in the form of new lava shaders, new VFX, and other touch ups to make it look great in both SDR and HDR. Additionally, we had to balance IOA improvements while also working on other unannounced projects, which was tricky.

Game development is always full of surprises. Nevertheless, the result is a richer, more visually captivating journey through Aveum that we hope new and old battlemages alike will enjoy.

AMD FSR 3 Updates Will Bring Improved Visuals & Performance to PC

Thanks to the hard work of our wonderful partners at Enduring Games, patch 1.0.6.4 will soon bring AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3), including its frame generation capability, to Immortals of Aveum on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as FSR 3 updates for PC! We’re pumped that Immortals of Aveum will be the first game to implement FSR 3 with frame gen on consoles. Soon, console and PC players alike can take advantage of FSR 3's temporal upscaling, advanced frame generation, and built-in latency reduction technology for improved framerates and game performance.

"I work with wizards," said Adam Creighton, Studio Head for Enduring Games. "At EG, we are about doing hard things that are not yet generally available for gamers or game developers. Since we work with AMD and we work with Ascendant, Enduring Games was in a unique place to enhance our FSR 3 work for PC, and bring the tech to consoles for the first time, all for fans of Immortals of Aveum."

Again, thanks to our friends at Enduring, this FSR 3 update will also extend support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) monitors and TVs on both PC and console, which will improve frame pacing and reduce occurrences of judder or screen tears. Additionally, FSR 3 on PC will be updated to a newer, better version that will further improve visual quality and performance of its temporal upscaling.

Patch 1.0.6.4 is in the works and set to be released in the coming weeks. We’ll have more information on the release timing as we get closer, so stay tuned!
