Crow Country is a fantastic indie survival horror which capitalizes immensely on the PS1-era vibe of survival horror and does so while maintaining a really good modern feel. The game's atmosphere and story are great as well. Highly recommended.

Not to be overly reductive in my description, but this is a good baby's first Silent Hill, minus the "deep" plot. The puzzles make sense, there's a generous hint system and the item drops seem to be dynamic, meaning you're always finding the ammo that you're lacking. It's also not that hard to dodge the enemies altogether. The controls are also a nice departure from the regular survival horrors - you _can_ use tank controls, but there's also a modern control scheme with relative movement and rotating camera.

Notice how I'm only describing the technical parts. It's a competent nice little game, I don't really have bad things to say. My only gripe with it is that it doesn't seem to want to say anything of import - it's not the aforementioned Silent Hill, nor is it Signalis or Homebody. This is a survival horror set in a theme park which feels like a theme park version of survival horrors. For that reason I likely won't be replaying it, though I enjoyed my time with it (and really looking forward to seeing what other experiments the developers will do - I also love their other games)

Pure nostalgia. That would be an adequate motive to try out the game.
However, a recommendation based on such concept as the sole reason of playing, would merely be unfair to the developers. PS1 era inspired horror games are becoming more prevalent, but attaining desired feeling of "nostalgia" is not easy to come by. Crow Country presents you the fragments of the past, bringing you back to your childhood, as an impeccable, complete experience from the graphics to the sound elements and manages to captivate you with a story, which is still a regular discussion topic on the dedicated subreddit.
Despite having a storyline quite straight-forward, every step I took left me wondering with what I was yet to encounter, evoking emotions of despair and comfort simultaneously. The game encourages the player to check every corner of the map and rewards for doing so. The puzzles are well-made, including references contributing to the main premise of the story, and easy to comprehend, just require paying attention to the notes and the environment.
As an instance of survival horror genre, the game was leaning more on the story side than survival with the abundance of healing items and ammo supply. While this might have not satisfied the expectations of some players longing more for a survival - action gameplay, I believe these feedbacks were relieved with the release of hard mode.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this game to anyone seeking a unique yet familiar experience.
