Foraging Added to Our Demo!

Hi everyone,

Thanks to a reminder from one of our amazing supporters on Discord we realised that we never did an official update tell you all about the update to the demo, which happened in March.

Previously, our demo only featured customization options, which we know left many of you wanting more. We hear you and appreciate your feedback!

In March, we released an updated demo that now includes both customization and foraging. By updating or re-downloading the demo, you can explore a small part of our world and experience the very beginning of the game. Enjoy 15-20 minutes of immersive gameplay.

We're committed to enhance this demo further, so stay tuned for our next update, which will feature a free-form photo mode! In the meantime, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Your feedback is invaluable to us: tell us what you like, don't like and why. By doing so, you can help us shape this game and make it better!

PS: We are aware that some PCs that do not meet our minimum requirements may experience a crash error. We're sorry for the inconvenience! While we are currently focused on development and cannot investigate and resolve this issue immediately, your assistance is invaluable. Animal products alternatives

TL;DR: It would be awesome if there were plant-based alternatives for cooking ingredients like cream and cheese. Full: Okay, so, this might be a far too early thing to say now as we don't yet know the recipes, how big a part cooking will play, etc., so, forgive me if I'm assuming too much here, but I want to give personal feedback as long as it might still be taken into account: In the screenshots it's already visible that at least cheese and cream will be available ingredients, I don't know about meat. ...

Coastal Foraging and The Last Few Days of Kickstarter

Hello fellow foragers,

As we approach the last few days of the Out and About Kickstarter campaign, I’m excited to share some huge stretch goals with you. Last week you, being the amazing community that you are, unlocked the following stretch goals!

Nintendo Switch port - That’s right, you can literally go out and about while playing Out and About.

Coastal Foraging - There’s only one thing nicer than foraging in the wilderness, and that’s foraging by the sea. This will bring a host of new plants and recipes, which can only be found in coastal regions.

More mushrooms and plants - I know, I didn't think we would have much-room to fit more ingredients into the game (sorry, not sorry). This will increase the amount of recipes you can learn, both in and out of Out and About.

Campfire cooking - After foraging all day, you will now be able to perch up on a cozy rock and start a cute little campfire to cook your ingredients on and master the long list of recipes.

The Kickstarter campaign isn’t over yet, we still have 3 days to go. The next stretch goal is crafting! This allows you to collect natural material and tinker with small crafts - in the game and in real life.

The past 4 weeks have been amazing and I’m completely blown away by your support for Out and About. We are still very early in the journey of bringing the power of foraging to everyone.

Wholesome Artwork Competition Time

Hello fellow foragers,

To celebrate the Out and About Kickstarter, and the amazing support you have all provided as a community we are running a competition, giving away exclusive in-game prize opportunities for Out and About. To enter the competition you’ll need to submit an Out and About inspired piece of fan art via the submission form (below). Entry is via a social media post link.

The competition closes on Thursday 12th of October, at 3:00 p.m. The development team will narrow down the submissions to a top five, and the top five will then be voted for in the Out and About Discord over the weekend of Saturday 14th, and Sunday 15th of October. The submission of fan art can either be digital art or a picture of physical art. AI art and AI-generated art is not allowed.

First thoughts

I love your demo and the idea. I had been playing around with the thought of how to gamify learning about plants myself (though being into fantasy and an absolute beginner with game dev, so... ), so I got curious by the game description. Seeing the field guide and how you really have to look at the plant, identify it hint by hint, I immediately went "Yes! How.cool!" Also, I like that you included the Latin names and some explanation to the English titles. The etymology of the words can be so helpful, as w...

Demo thoughts

First of all, progressed up to the stage where you need to harvest from 9 patches of plants. Got stuck on 8/9; all of the patches I saw said "regrowing", so either it's a bug or one of the patches is in a really obscure place. In my opinion, it would be helpful if patches that are regrowing either didn't have the particles, or the particle effect changed in a distinct way. I spent several minutes running around, and given the layout of the demo, felt very lost and couldn't tell which patches I've already ...

Misleading Demo

I like the idea of a foraging game, as it would be great to practice plant identification/use etc. However, as a developer interacting with the steam community I find it horribly misleading to offer a "Demo" - it be 1gig and all it is character generation and some basic emote animation testing and that's it. ZERO GAME PLAY???--That is not a demo. Really glad that I didn't pre-pay for early access to get a non-playable demo. Again, I look forward to actually trying the game, but your demo is NOT a demo....

Can't Play

The game doesn't open :'( it gets to the menu, i click on start and it gets stuck at the loading page and freezes my pc.. Any devs around who has a clue on how to solve it?
