How do you save your game? I played for a short while and when I came back to the game I was at the beginning again....????

I got through the issue I was having before but now I have come to a different puzzle but have the same issue as it is not taking the code, I have even looked at a walkthrough and the code is correct but it's not opening the door it's the V, circle with line through it, J, W, - how am I meant to progress?...

I have the hint button on the top left and the back button on the bottom left. I tried using the escape but it doesn't work. Thanks
