Patch 1.05

Hello drafters,

We have released patch 1.05 this afternoon for Steam players. This patch addresses a number of issues reported by the community.
Save Corruption & Loading Freeze Fixes

We've identified and addressed several edge cases that were causing save file corruption, resulting in a loading freeze when accessing the main menu. Unfortunately, if your save file was affected by these issues, we are sorry to say that means it is corrupted and irretrievable despite our best efforts to find a way to restore it.

This update also includes multiple fixes aimed at preventing these corruption cases from occurring in the future. Several code checks have been added to reduce the chance of corruption including redundant checking of the validity of the save before writing it. Additionally, we’ve implemented an automatic backup system: if the primary save becomes corrupted or lost, a backup save will now load instead.

If you are PS Plus user whose save file has been affected by this, we have had a few encouraging reports from users who were able to restore a backup of their save file via Playstaion Plus cloud storage. To restore from cloud on PS5 follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings.

2. Select Saved Data (PS5).

3. Choose Download or Delete from Cloud Storage.

4. Select the game and then the specific save file you want to restore.

5. Choose Download.

We are also currently implementing an “IMPORT TROPHY DATA” feature to work with platform achievements that had been previously earned in previous save files (even if they don’t exist in any of your current save files.) This feature will be included in an upcoming patch.

FURTHER CHANGES IN THIS PATCH LISTED BELOW:

Fixed a bug occurring when consecutive Parlor boxes were opened too quickly.
Fixed an input recognition issue on keyboard where \[Right Arrow] and \[A] were incorrectly interpreted as CONFIRM in certain cases.
Corrected some minor magnification issues and inconsistencies in font usage in the following locations - Library, \Master Bedroom\, \Vault. \
Unified all instances of ‘Mary Matthew’ to a consistent spelling. (One instance had a typo.)

LATE GAME SPOILERS BELOW

\You can now reset rarity changes that you have made to your floorplans. The method is explained in the Conservatory menu as floorplan rarity can only be reset in the Conservatory).\
\The doors powered by remote power boxes are now opened by button press instead of unlocking automatically. These doors will remain permanently unlocked after being opened.\
\A trunk in the Treasure Trove incorrectly displaying the moon symbol has been changed to the sun symbol. (A blue memo was incorrectly being labeled as false.\

We also have corrected a few oversights and bugs in the room drafting logic. Below are listed a few of the resulting technical corrections that may be of interest.

\Master Bedroom will no longer erroneously appear in places other than the East Wing (Rank 9 related bug)\
\Fixed a narrow bug permitting Foundation to be added to the draft pool after repellent use before 7 days had transpired.\
\Foundation will no longer be drawn with as much frequency on Ranks 2 and 3\
\An oversight in outer room drafting logic has been corrected concerning day one and outer room rarities have been slightly flattened across the board.\

The patch is live now on Steam. We expect the patch to be available to Xbox and PlayStation players before the weekend.

Blue Prince Accolades Trailer, Music Room Bundle and Mac Update

We are excited to share our accolades trailer showcasing many of the wonderful responses to Blue Prince!

We have been so grateful for the support and enthusiasm shown by the community, from players, content creators and press alike. After eight years in development, seeing the reception to Blue Prince has been incredible.

We also have news.

Blue Prince will be available to Mac players on Steam in 2025!

We will have more details about when Mac players will be able to begin their explorations of Mount Holly to share with you in the near future.

But that’s not all.
The original soundtrack by Trigg & Gusset featuring 32 tracks from Blue Prince is now available on Steam alongside the new Music Room Bundle, which includes Blue Prince and the OST together.

The end of the Tunnel (is the guide wrong?)

Tunnel spoilers at the end of the tunnel there are 3 boxes. According to the game play guide, "two of the boxes contain a "prize", the other is empty." But I opened all three and only one contains a prize...am I missing something?

I highly recommend Blue Prince as a slow-burning hardcore puzzle game. This review was written after finishing the surface-level main objective after 39 in-game days and 24 hours of gameplay (within 36 real life hours of getting it- I'm hooked.) For context on my review, I’m a fan of obnoxious puzzle-filled walking simulators like The Witness and Lingo, and I heavily dislike RNG.

While Blue Prince has some roguelike elements, it is first and foremost a puzzle game. If you love complex puzzles, have lots of patience, and are a meticulous notetaker with great attention to detail, please submit your resume within.

If you want fast-paced gameplay, action, or a roguelike you can mindlessly play until you win off of RNG, we will be moving forward with other candidates at this time.

Blue Prince has an excellent balance of language, math, and logic puzzles. It also seamlessly weaves in the context of the story and overall setting. Every single aspect of Mount Holly is linked to a puzzle ranging from small to overarching, and all of those puzzles are baked together into a tantalizingly complex 46-layer puzzle lasagna. The payoff to every puzzle is very satisfying and proportional to the amount of effort it requires.

Even after completing the primary objective, it feels like I’ve only scratched the surface of the world and there are still countless puzzle loose ends to tie up. From the pacing so far, I expect it would take at least another 40-60 hours to uncover the rest of the game.

Now let’s address the two primary complaints other reviewers have brought up: RNG and the story.

While some runs will be duds from the start, it in no way takes away from the overall game experience. Playing with the strategy to beeline for Room 46 every time will result in the exact disappointment that comes across in most of the red reviews. Be willing to adapt your plan for the day to whatever you draft- not just playstyle and room selection, but your overall goal. Pivoting unlucky runs to focus on discovering, unlocking, and setting up for the next day is heavily encouraged. Furthermore, lack of key items can occasionally be circumvented with alternate items, routes, or even knowledge gained simply by observing. Go into each run looking to learn as much as possible. Remember that while in-game resources reset each day, what you have discovered does not. Basically, treat it like a puzzle game and not a roguelike and you’ll be fine.

As for the story, if you are incapable of understanding a story unless it’s handed to you explicitly by an extradiegetic narrator, please go back to high school English and work on your media literacy before coming back to play this game. Clues to what is happening are drip fed in a slow but satisfying manner, and you are left to connect them as you work your way through the house and its grounds. Some things are only intimated or implied, but you are heavily rewarded for chasing the whispers. If you like having to figure things out for yourself, this is a plus. If you don’t, why are you reading reviews for a puzzle game?

If you do decide to play this game, go in blind. Also, have a document, journal, or bulletin board with red string handy to take notes on everything you come across. If that sounds lame, then you probably won’t enjoy Blue Prince. If you’re the brand of nerd that already has a puzzle notebook, you’re going to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love this game.

TLDR: Brilliant game idea with a major design flaw.

After 30 hours and about 80 in-game days, I give up. The RNG in this game is way out of control. I have notes for half a douzand different puzzles and know what step must be done next to proceed in them. But, for all of them I need a specific combination of drafted rooms and collected resources, both of which are randomized. In the last ~30 in-game days, there was pretty much no progress, at least nothing that helped in any way. At this point, the game has just become boring and I am not motivated to grind through another douzand runs in the hope of being so lucky that the game allows me to actually solve a puzzle.
The mixed reviews totally make sense when you consider the huge RNG factor of the game: If you get lucky, you may have a very nice progression throughout the entire game. If not, well, then the game just starts sucking at some point. I hope they make a patch some day that gives players more control over what rooms you draft and what items you can find.

Its a great puzzle game, I've enjoyed my time with it. It is unique, insightful, clever, enjoyable, and sadly it does not know when enough is enough and massively overstays its welcome. I truly am a Blue Prince, with how sad I am that I don't feel compelled to complete this game's post game series of puzzles.

The good in the game is obvious, so I'm going to voice my only gripe. The "Late Game / Endgame" secret hunt is just miles upon miles of rng layered, obscure reference puzzle hell that only rewards you with clues towards more puzzles, and hardly even gives you hints of where to go next. The utter lack of payoff and massive lack of respect for the player's time have soured me on the endgame and despite my love and recommendation of the game, I will not be following these Endgame puzzles through to their conclusion. It feels like an addict begging me to "just let me give you one more puzzle man then I'll reward you I swear." There's far too many hidden puzzles in the late game grind just leading one into the other, with absolutely zero reward outside irrelevant consumable upgrades for drafting the house and more vague hints towards puzzles that reward you with more vague hints towards the next meta puzzle.

This is a lovely game, it is a masterwork - The only one of its kind. get it, play as much as you feel satisfied with, and be comfortable putting it down unfinished because it does not respect your time as a player.

Parlor box puzzle question

This certain one seems to have 3 boxes true. Blue box: The empty boxes are both true. white box: The gems are in the black box. black box: This box is not empty. I picked black and it is correct. However there doesn't same to be anything that makes the blue box false. The white box is true and empty. The blue box is empty and it says that empty boxes are both true. Nothing says it is false in its statement. Nothing says it is specifically true either. But I don't think its logical to assume lack of truth ...
