Vice City: Definitive Edition is like visiting Miami in the ‘80s—neon lights, pastel suits, and synth music blasting—except someone slapped a glossy Instagram filter on everything and occasionally forgot how human faces are supposed to look.

You play as Tommy Vercetti, a walking Hawaiian shirt with a temper, climbing the criminal ladder while casually quoting Scarface and committing enough felonies to qualify for his own Netflix documentary. The vibe? Absolutely unmatched. The soundtrack alone is worth the price of admission—nothing beats cruising the strip at sunset while “Billie Jean” blasts through the speakers.

The remaster? Mixed bag. On one hand, you’ve got smoother controls, GPS markers, and the joy of not wrestling with 20-year-old mechanics. On the other hand, you’ve got shiny but weird character models, rain that looks like someone dumped milk on your screen, and bugs that make Vice City feel like it’s haunted by unfinished code.

But underneath the jank, the magic of Vice City still shines. The colors, the music, the absurd missions (yes, you do get to fight a biker gang while dressed like a discount Miami Vice extra). It’s camp, it’s chaotic, it’s crime with style.

8/10 pastel suits. Would buy another mansion just to blast “Video Killed the Radio Star” again.

This is a 10/10 game so good, out of all GTA games this is my favorite.

Vice City was always an exaggerated memory.
Oversaturated colors, impossible sunsets, cars that shined brighter than the people driving them.
Now, with this edition, all of that feels more real… without losing the unreal.

Yes, there’s more detail, more reflections, more definition.
But the important thing is that it still looks like a lying postcard.

Don’t expect modern mechanics.
Vice City plays like what it is: a 20-year-old game with just enough fixes not to break it.

Weapons respond better. Cars don’t slide like soap.
And the pace… stays the same: fast when you want chaos, slow when you want style.

It lets you speed down the coast without a mission alarm ringing every two seconds.
It lets you fail and retry without insulting your time.

It’s not perfect.
But it doesn’t try to be.
It just wants you to have a good time. And it succeeds.

Tommy Vercetti is one of those characters who needs no introduction.
Dry charisma. Contained violence. Unapologetic ambition.

The story doesn’t get complicated, nor does it need to.
Vice City is about rising.
About falling.
And about still smiling on the front page the next day.

Every character is an archetype, but with lines that still work.
Not because they’re deep.
But because they know what they are.

Was this remaster necessary? Maybe not.
Does it feel better to play it like this than to go back to the untouched original? Yes.

It runs well.
It sounds better.
It looks presentable.

It’s not revolutionary.
But it’s comfortable.
And for a game that’s two decades old, that’s saying a lot.

dont buy this game i was promised from reviews that it would be good like a sweet drink but when i bought it i was hit with a nothing like the reviews said full off bugs and every thing wierd textures and all and if you go 5 meters away the textures look bad the bugs i have a mission and no marker everything was bad if you do a mission and almost finish the mission and get killed too bad you have to restart the whole mission no checkpoints i get hit by a car and die and i have to do the ENTIRE MISSION AGAIN even the soundtrack was bad no more good classics dont buy this game i cant believe i spent money on this trash the defective edition

The Definitive Edition is supposed to be a mostly faithful recreation of the original GTA Vice City and in my opinion it does the job quite well. It does a great job at capturing the unique vibe of the original game. Unfortunately, I find that the game itself, although very enjoyable, did not live up to my nostalgia. Vice City is perhaps the greatest GTA when it comes to making you feel like you're in a certain time period. Unfortunately, vibes alone do not make a game. The story of Vice City is incredibly lackluster to the point where you could remove the story entirely and the game wouldn't be that much worse for it. Even its predecessor, GTA 3, does better in the story aspect. The development of Vice City was rushed and it is very apparent when you actually play the game. Despite all of this, I do think it's an enjoyable experience and would recommend the game to people. It doesn't quite live up to its predecessor in my opinion, but it doesn't have to.

This was one of my fav games when I was in high school (after playing GTA2 as a kid, this was my first 3D universe game). Now I revisited it with the Definitive Edition (with Radio Stations restored ofc, Wildstyle slaps), and I was actually pretty impressed. Maybe it's better now than the initial release but it looked really good to me, the lights especially. I got used to Tommy's new model pretty quickly too, even though I kinda hated his new face at first lol (also, can I just say that I effin love Ray Liotta?)
As for the gameplay, it's still as immersive as ever. Funny how young me had to abuse cheats to be able to get through the story and most of us who played this back in the day remember missions like Demolition Man being extremely difficult to the point of pulling our hair out, but as an adult I eased through the whole thing. I even grinded out that 100% completion for the first time ever.
It does get buggy sometimes, like skipping cutscenes would sometimes switch the game to windowed mode and when I try to get it back it's all weird and I have to restart the whole game. It's 20+ year old game, so it's bound to have weird bugs but I don't remember this being a thing so it's either the DE or just something with my graphics.
If you're used to new GTAs and expecting the same experience you'll be disappointed. Even with some QoL stuff added in the DE, the game is just a bit harder, and yes you have to restart missions from the beginning (but none of them are that long so I don't get why so many poeple have an issue with this). But if you're going into this with an open mind, appreciate the good things about it and accept the flaws, yes, including the weird bugs and glitches, you're going to have a blast. Maybe it's because I'm a 90s kid, but games having these in moderation doesn't bug me (pun intended) . Definitely buy the trilogy when it's discounted though.
