Edit #1: I'm about two hours in and I'm getting used to the controls, but overall, it's way clunkier than the first game.

TL;DR: First game is better in just about every way.

I am only about an hour in and I will change this review if my opinion changes, but for now these are my first impressions as a veteran of the series.

Being a longtime PixelJunk player, this purchase was a no-brainer for me. Unfortunately it doesn't live up to the name. I loved every second of the original Eden to the point where I hit 100% on it. This game feels like a cheap spinoff, or a mobile adaptation rather than a sequel.

I think anyone who hasn't played the first game will genuinely enjoy the cozy gameplay that this game has to offer, but I would still caution people about the game feeling rather linear compared to the exploratory "open world" feel of the first game.

Pro's:
You get to swing around as a silky boi
Beautiful art and a wonderful soundtrack

Cons:
Oversimplified controls for any veteran players, and no option for legacy controls
Physics was changed dramatically from the first game
linear and repetitive gameplay with no real sense of progression
Feels early access rather than a release
Different characters don't offer much of a difference in how they look or play
The upgrades you earn feel worthless so I just stockpile them
Can't escape the feeling that the first game was better.

PixelJunk™ Eden 2 is a very relaxing game. Compared to the first game, the swinging mechanic has been simplified, which makes the game less frustrating but also less challenging for some people. The music is very good, a lot better than Eden 1’s soundtrack imo. I also like the addition of the “spices”, which act as power-ups that you start the levels with. The different Grimps (playable creatures) are still cute!

I’m glad to finally have PJE2 in my Steam Library, after years of playing it on the Switch :D
