I think it's solid, but it isn't quite for me.

Mech Armada is a roguelike mini mech builder, where each mech is made of three parts and you have to weigh cost against utility to build a squad that can handle all the diverse situations the game throws at you.

Or you can put an energy shield and tank treads on a defender.

There *are* monsters that can counter this, but only by doing the sort of damage that would instantly scrap any other mech in the game, and the way you handle them is via mine fields and snipers. Movement speeds are also limited, as battle maps are small and congested, so the game's meta kinda gets squashed down to either Do Big Damage From Range or Infinity Tanking Build.

There *is* a lot of content to unlock if you want to grind for it, and the overall level of polish and variety of enemies and mech parts is pretty high for something that feels like it was made on a very tight budget, but there isn't a lot of narrative, so whether this clicks for you is going to be down to how much you like the feeling of crafting and combat.

In a favorable light, I think I could call this a spiritual successor to Impossible Creatures, although it's not really as deep and rich. Still, if you like the sort of game that rewards you for designing effective units, I don't think this is a bad pick up, especially on a sale.

I really love this game. I have 12 hours in and am really enjoying it. Each run is a little different due to the randomness of upgrades, which gives a different challenge each time. Otherwise you would end up finding a favorite build and sticking with it I think. I sort of wish there was a co-op or VS campaign, though I'm not sure how vs would work in a game like this. Either way, this has been an enjoyable tactical puzzle game with enough random elements to keep me playing.

(EDIT: I will have to say that I've experienced quite a few crashes. Fortunately, after every crash I loaded the game and was back exactly where I was when it crashed with no loss of moves or changes, so I haven't been angered too much by any of them. I could see it frustrating some people though.)

I can't get enough of this game. I should be playing the new Elden Ring DLC right now, but I keep finding myself playing this instead.

Pros:
+It really makes you think hard about each move before you commit to it. It's a lot like Into The Breach.
+A ton of variety in mech parts
+Great music that fits the gameplay well
+Endlessly replayable! Each run, randomizes the levels, the enemies, and the mech parts you'll have available

Cons:
-Although you can see each enemy's attack range before making a move, there's an issue where it can be unclear, due to other enemies in the way. This sometimes results in thinking you can safely move into range and kill enemy A, only to find out too late that you're now in range of enemy B, despite what the preview showed you.
