Overview

Defold 1.8.1 includes new engine features like error handling for file writes, options for disabling LiveUpdate auto-mounting, and support for Lua transpilers, new and improved camera component and API, as well as numerous bug fixes related to meshes, sprites, fonts, HTTP requests, and editor UI issues.

We’d like to highlight the initial support for Lua transpilers in the build pipeline (both editor and bob). The first language that can be used to try the transpiler feature is Teal 37 — a typed dialect of Lua. You will need to add teal extension 13 to the dependencies to try it out. The support is currently limited to transpilation only and excludes automatic extern generation for Defold’s Lua APIs. This means it is more useful for writing type-safe standalone logic than interacting with Defold runtime, though teal allows writing necessary externs yourself.

The first iteration of an improved camera component has been added in this version of Defold. The camera API is now available in all scripts (including render scripts and gui scripts) via the camera namespace, and contain new functionality to bind a camera to the renderer instead of passing explicit view and projection matrices to it.

Windows version of Defold launcher being installed on a Linux system

Just did a clean install of Fedora and decided to use Steam to install Defold. But the "native' editor refused to start at all and no obvious logs files were produced. SO got the binary archive from Defold directly and had it working relatively easily. Still couldn't get the Steam install to run. Examined the files and noticed that Steam had installed the .exe launcher instead of the correct one. Any pointers on how to positively identify the culprit for this?...

Easyer then GMS2? or just harder?

So guys lemme tell you my background first... I did indeed make some games both on GMS and Construct 3 I believe I made around 15 ore more games on C3 and around 3 or 4 in GMS2... I am looking for an engine that I can code but that is also easy and possibly easyer then GMS2... and that is also capable of doing 3d... I dont care so much wich programming language I will be using... I wanna know if this is the right choice for me?...

Defold for gambling?

Hello! Some time ago, Defold website was clear about gambling games. It was not allowed. But this post and terms of use has disappeared. Is it changed? Can we make gambling games in Defold?
