This game is delightful both visually and musically. I fell in love with the handpainted environments that you navigate. It really makes you think about the Scottish highlands, both because of its geography and because of how much it rains (oh my god, it rains SO much in this game)

The exploration premise of finding a mountain peak, getting your bearings, and then using maps to find passes into the next section of your journey was pretty fun once I got the hang of it. Also the rhythm game sprint sections were super fun, and the Celtic music was delightful to listen to.

With multiple paths and items and discoveries to make, the game is meant to be played through multiple times. The fact that you get to keep previous discoveries and items, and there's also stats to challenge yourself to finish the game quicker all urge you to try at least one or two more runs after your first one. I know I definitely did better on my second run compared to my first one.

The story is pretty cool, but a bit basic, and I already knew what was gonna happen by day 1. This might be because I watched Song of the Seas (very similar in its premise) so I kinda got more easily clued in to what the game was gonna be about, but it was still pretty nice. I felt like learning about the folklore and history of the areas you explored was interesting too.

As for some of the bad points: the climbing was somewhat frustrating in some sections of the game. The damage you take from falling felt inconsistent, where I'd bang my knee while going as careful as I could, and yet be perfectly fine on drops and jumps that I'd assume would hurt me. Health management became a bit of an issue because I died a few times in my first playthrough and made a nasty discovery that respawning sets you back with even less health than before.

On your journeys you collect all sorts of items but I never quite felt like I managed to find a use for any of them, even with the journal notes providing some hints (probably?) Also the fact that when you interact using your collected objects in certain areas, the game chooses to only give you two suggested objects in your inventory to use instead of the entire inventory was a frustrating and unnecessary design choice. I never felt like I knew what I was doing with any of them. "Feed cool gem to lion statue? nope that's not it. What about this cool sword? nope. Lavender? Nope"

Summary: the art is good, the music is good, the exploration is engaging enough, the story you can figure out quickly, but it's got some cool lore you find out about. It's just got some frustrating gameplay issues for me personally.

Loved everything about this game. The art style, the music, the idea in general! Really had a great time playing it!
