Cannot get this game to run in Windows 10 - 1903. Tried running in compatibility mode but no luck. (Got it free as a curator to review.)

I am stuck and I don't know if the game is buggy or I'm REALLY missing something. I am at the point where I'm supposed to search my room and I can't get in. The protag keeps saying "I got to search the rest of the house before I retire." I've searched every room and even hint system tells me to go into the room. HELP! I understand that people had this problem back in 2021 . did anyone find a solution ?

Anyone get the [ spoon in the church HOP? I finally used the hint and I'm clicking around it and nothing is working to pick up the item. Any suggestions to help me to move on?
