I like playing wow but game is turning into ♥♥♥♥, is this game better?

But as a new player I tried the first area and the game seemed really dead. I don't want to play an mmorpg by myself.

Do you only get XP from doing quests or does killing enemies gain you XP? Thanks:)

When i click the play button the cryptic updater comes up and begins to download 118.8MB at an EXTREMELY SLOW rate which is not right cause I have Extremely fast internet, download down to 94MB and then jumps back up to 118.8MB again. I've been playing the game for the last 5 years with no issue and have only just received this problem in the last couple days, any suggestions or advise....

I started playing this game a while back and was enjoying it but ended up taking a break for a couple years. I was thinking of coming back but I’ve seen some mixed input regarding PvE and how questing works now and everything else. Is the playerbase still active or kinda dead now?...
