this game is ok. you should play it if you are playing through the yakuza series. i don't really recommend going for the platinum trophy. the game is kind of janky and a lot of the minigames feel a little broken. the story is ok 6/10 worst game in the franchise but still good. we are NOT beating the blockuza allegations!!!!!!

Great game btw

Another Yakuza game done! It is a bit downgraded quality since I played right after Yakuza Kiwami 2 since this is only a remastered and not a remake. I would say if this became a remake, it would look gorgeous, especially the scenarios! The beginning is a bit boring, but closer to the ending is worth it. I can see the development of all the characters in the game. If I took my time to do most of the side quests, for sure there are bonds which I could have seen the development. Well done <3

Yakuza 3 is one of those games with dated gameplay mechanics but if you're willing to overlook it and play around and figure it out a little, you will be able to enjoy this game. I can see why a lot of people say this is one of the worst games in the series but I recommend playing it to follow the amazing story it has and also because like the other entries in the series, this is a Yakuza game through and through and does not do much different from the previous games.

For Starters this is one of the best stories from the series, I have been going through the games in order and I do not want to undermine the previous entries (0, Kiwami 1/2) stories. In general, every Yakuza game has had an amazing Story and Story Telling but Yakuza 3 I would say is the most Emotionally driven story out of the previous ones. Again, I'm not saying the other stories are not emotionally driven, they all have a lot of emotional moments to them but I feel like this game is the hardest in that department and I think that has to do with the fact that the plot revolves around the Orphanage and the kids. I Cried a few times playing this game because the delivery of lines were so well executed on the very intense parts of the game that you end up really feeling the emotions that are going through the characters in the moment.

I would compare this game more to Kiwami 1 because when it comes to minigames and side quests, they are very similar to each other in that department, Kiwami didn't have a lot of side activities just like this one does not either and a lot of the sub stories in Kiwami also were not super exciting or as wacky just like in this game, although I would say in this game the sub stories are more interesting.

So I can see why almost everyone does not like this game, and it has to do a lot with the combat system which is one of the things that drives this series. Kiryu overall does not do as much damage, it takes you a bit to do decent damage because you need to upgrade him and to do that you need to do sub stories, but that is just 1 of the issues. For some reason, every time you fight a boss, they just block the whole time (Mini bosses do this too). It is very rare for you to ever get a punch in and when you do, Kiryu actually does even less damage to bosses, so you end up not doing a whole lot of damage in general which in turn drags the battles a lot. Heat moves also do much less damage (and to bosses even less) and do not feel like they have that hard impact as in the other games. However, I noticed that if you do enough sub stories to level up Kiryu, you can upgrade your heat moves to do more damage which does make them deal a significant amount but against bosses it's still very weak. I realized that the way to even do any damage in general is to strike as soon as the enemy combo finishes and you are facing their backs, if you are facing their front they will just block again. This is no easy task though because sometimes your side steps take you too far and running around sometimes makes the enemy not attack you, then pair it with the enemy sometimes just immediately turning around as soon they are done and face your direction which makes this feat incredibly hard to do. The upgrade system is also not great and on normal encounters there is a chance that you will get stun locked if there are multiple enemies attacking you with weapons at the same time. Some of the side quests as well (Particularly the ones that take place in Okinawa the most) were just very badly designed because all they had you do was go back and forth from one place to the other. It would be something along the lines of, you walk to a certain place then walk back then walk again to that same place then walk back again. It felt boring and tedious, thankfully it was only a handful of side quests that did that.

Although the game is not perfect and can get annoying at times, It was still a good game to experience, especially if you are a fan of the Yakuza series or Good Storytelling. This game Felt more like an RPG than Kiwami 1/2 and 0 as I have said those games feel more like Beat em ups with RPG elements. I think the reason for this is because in this game the encounters feel more random as they do not appear on your map and are less avoidable and the sub stories allow you to choose different options and have different outcomes that are determined by how well you do.

This was a good game, just be aware that it is a little dated in some areas but overall it is enjoyable. Get it on sale if anything and don't play it if you haven't played Yakuza 1 and 2

Trash, garbage.
Just skip it.
Its not about story, its about trash gameplay and fighting.
Whoever build that fighting system, never ever tried it for 5 min. or he would knew what a trash he made.

Your punches do like almost no damage and that even goes for your finishers
The game really should have been a remake like yakuza kiwami and yakuza kiwami 2
The games combat system just really needed an overhaul to make it more enjoyable

TLDR: A mediocre game in an amazing franchise.

Graphics:
While I was not a fan of how shiny everything in Kiwami 2 was, this game looks much worse. This is because Kiwami and Kiwami 2 were full remakes, while this game just remasters an older title.

Storyline:
Incredibly boring until the final 2 chapters. Mostly just fetch quests and hunting down people - but the ending was extremely emotional and very well made.

Price:
If possible, I'd wait for a sale. If there isn't a sale, it's not a bad purchase if you're just hoping to keep up with the storyline.

Difficulty:
Not difficult, just annoying at times.

AI:
The enemies LOVE to block. Interestingly, most can also stun you out of a block. Not a fun combo.

Cutscenes:
When they're used, they're really well made. This game, however, primarily uses text screens... and there are A LOT.

Fun:
While not as fun as prior titles in the series, I had a lot of fun! The substories and controls are noticeably worse than in prior titles, but it's still a fun game. It just doesn't live up to the standards of prior entries.

Sounds/Music:
Not memorable, but generally nice.

Achievements:
Story progression and tedious minigame grinding.

Replayability:
I'd likely pick Kiwami or Zero to replay, not this one. It doesn't have much to keep playing, missing things like Cabaret Club or the construction company minigame.

Noticeably worse than prior entries. Enemies also have a blocking addiction while your own blocks are worthless.
