While still in early access, there's a really good game here and, just like all games from the Trese Brothers, some fun mechanics and a great storyline. Highly recommended if you love XCOM-style games!

Cyber Knights is a very well thought out cyberpunk-themed squad turn-based strategy game. Somewhat of a cross between XCOM and Phantom Doctrine. Whereas XCOM is more fight oriented and the story is cheesy fantasy and Phantom Doctrine is more sneak/stealth oriented and has a realistic Cold War story, Cyber Knights is a good, fun and immersive balance of both.

Set in a cyberpunkish mega-city of the future, you assemble and lead a gang of brawlers, hackers and specialists through storyline and generated missions that can be anything from "go and hack a computer and steal data" to "free a guy from prison" to "assassinate an enemy VIP" to "escort a VIP through enemy territory" and many more. Sometimes you can complete a mission without ever engaging any enemies, other times you have to leave a pile of bodies behind.

Like in the other two games I mention and as is standard for such games, you also build and develop your base, manage your equipment and economy, send agents on assignments, recruit operatives, train and develop them, but all also with a cyberpunk classic of cybernetic, chemical and other implants and enhancements.

A special aspect is also hacking. Functioning like a sort of minigame, your dedicated hacker plugs into the matrix and moves through it, disabling firewalls, spiking CPUs, downloading files, etc.

Another thing that needs to be pointed out is the good and credible writing and storyline. Through dialogues with characters you are drawn into a world of intrigue between representatives of megacorporations, criminal cartels, gangs, corrupt officials, loose cannons and various other dregs of society, each with their own plans goals and and motives. When accepting various missions from any of them, you have to constantly keep in mind, that your decisions can make you friends or enemies, that you can get in over your head and that you're just a small player in a big and complicated megacity.

I don't usually buy games on Steam that are not on discount sale, but I made an exception for this game. I followed its development for a while and wanted to support the devs, since they seem very friendly and responsive to the community, implementing good suggestions and ideas as they come along.

While already a fully playable and fun Early Access, there are still many more updates and features coming, so if you like this sort of games, this one is definitely worth giving a go.

This is probably the best X-Com style game on the market. Specifically because it does it's own thing and has some more challenging/advanced gameplay as a consequence. I love the heist angle and how it forces you to play smart, I also love how it looks! You can make really nice looking characters in the custom creator! Unlike Pheonix Point and Troubleshooters, this game has an amazing aesthetic for it's budget.

It also has a really interesting character system where you get a soldiers with pre-made backstory but get to cusrtomize their appearence to your hearts content. It gives you the satisfaction of getting attached to a solider that carried you through the game and experiencing a developed storyline.

There's also a great relationship system where they develop reps between each other and your various contacts. There's an in-depth reputation system and when it all comes together I look forward to seeing how replayable this complex story system will make things.

Anyway, it's an easy 8-9/10 for me, I look forward to the full release. Go ahead and buy it choom!

Late to the game (June 2024). It's a fun tactical shooter/heist game. Layered with squad and resource management. Lots of little working bits (skill trees, equipment, gear, base and team management) without a tons of overbearing overhead to think about. Fun turn based tactical game.

This is shaping up to be an amazing cyberpunk game! I do have a few issues with it, but A) I fully expect a lot of them to be solved by the updates just based on the company's past game and B) what are core disagreements will be moddable or changeable.

There is a lot going on but i think i'm figuring it out.
Desperately needs an in-game "click this for an explanation of what it is" kind of feature.

I'm having fun learning it.

Flashpoint has a really great tension between stealth and full on combat. Trying to sneak your way through a level feels good as does gunning down hordes of enemies. Not a lot of games manage that well.

There is a really solid base game here that will only get better if fleshed out with more content. It is an early access title as of writing this review but it seems to be relatively feature complete already. I look forward to seeing what is in store for the final release.

Devs have a rep for being consistent in both completing updates and communicating their roadmaps and elsewise. if you're interested but wary of being left behind by deadbeat indie devs and endless Early Access titles, fear not. The Trese Brothers games have never failed to impress. Tactical turn based combat comes packaged with solid stealth mechanics and varied team members to run missions.

I actually bought this game almost as soon as it was available and had been watching the updates. Once it appeared that the game was nearing the end of early access and might be worth a go, I jumped in. So far, I have been very pleased. If you like X-Com type games, then Cyber Knights might be right up your ally. One thing that really impressed me is the support. I was having an issue with a recruit, so asked about it on Discord and discovered it was a bug. In the game you can hit "F10" to report bugs, and even this feature pleasantly surprised me. They only wanted to know what the issue was. They did not force me to answer a gauntlet of questions about what version of Windows I was running, how much ram I had, or the type of toilet paper I used. Best of all, I kid you not, the very next day when I loaded it up, there was a list of bug fixes and my issue was addressed and the bug is now gone. Did I mention the game was fun? It is.
