Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2

absolute zero part 1
Kyle's Review of "Absolute Zero" - 3/5
Hard, unique, and very messy. 3/5 stars.

Where do I start? I think I loved and hated Absolute Zero in equal measure. Most folks probably won't like it, and I can understand why. The difficulty goes from hard to absurd, supplies are stretched thin, and everything from the aesthetics to the navigation feels unpolished.

But for me, there was some spark of genius that kept me going. There are one-off gimmicks all over the place, including things I've never seen in L4D2 before. The maps progress from a snowy airfield to secret labs to ancient tombs and back to the snow. There are NPCs, too!

It feels like traveling through a captivating dream where nothing logically makes sense, but the atmosphere is so strangely beautiful that you don't care... and then the difficulty spike of a finale snaps you back to reality just in time to get instantly killed by the rescue vehicle.

Still, I recommend trying Absolute Zero if you're damn good and you don't mind instant death traps. It's unforgettably weird.
