Beyond Mortality unleashes eldritch horror from realms beyond the veil of death itself upon the Darkest Dungeon!

Some arcane experiment conducted in the depths of the Ruins has torn the already tattered fabric of reality to shreds. From dread dimensions, a spectral tide of horrors spill forth, a deadly new threat that grows by the day.

Responding to the upsurge in paranormal energies, a band of science-minded heroes begins the journey to the Estate, bringing enigmatic technology and a mysterious new power to battle the phantasmal threat. Do these heroes bring the promise of salvation, or do they foolishly tamper with forces... Beyond Mortality?

Gather your bravest heroes and venture into the Ruins to battle the fiendish new threat that even now haunts the nethermost shadows...

New Enemy Faction - The Ectomorphs

Beyond Mortality adds a brand new enemy faction - the Ectomorphs! These ghostly entities have begun to manifest in the Ruins ever since some mysterious experimented conducted there ended disastrously, tearing the veil of reality between the mortal plane and the realm of the Ectomorphs.

Currently, there are seven new Ectomorph enemies that can be encountered in the Ruins.

Bloated Specter
  • This hideous apparition is ponderous but highly durable.
Tall Man
  • A gangly fiend that can fade into the shadows as a prelude for unleashing devastating terror.
Filthy Soul
  • This twisted manifestation supports its fellow phantasms with infusions of unnatural energy.
The Wretched
  • A pitiful wisp of ectoplasmic residue, animated purely by hatred for the living.
Haunting Horror
  • This heaving mass of ectomorphic fury is so unstable, it cannot help but fragment itself into more Ectomorphs as relentlessly attacks.
Boogeyman
  • A capering spectre, constantly leaping about and sowing chaos.
Ravenous Maw
  • A nightmarish apparition, possessed of an unearthly hunger.

New Hero Class - The Paracausalist!

He has the means and the determination to find it.

Beyond Mortality adds a new hero class uniquely qualified to combat the eldritch powers on the rise at the Estate - the Paracausalist! A science-minded man wielding an experimental weapon system, powered by an enigmatic energy known as the Vril.

The Paracausalist has the means to deal heavy damage with his ranged abilities, though to sustain his damage output he must push his power source, the Vril Engine, to dangerous limits. He is also effective at disrupting and impeding the enemy party. His damage-dealing abilities are especially effective against Ectomorph-type enemies.

Combat Skills

Nucleo-Protonic Ray

OOOX I O+O+OX
Full-steam with strogon pulse.

A high-damage blast that strikes multiple targets.
Ranged AOE attack. Reduces attack power for several rounds.

Scanner Scope

OOOX I OOOO
P.C.E. readings right off the top of the scale.

Identifies and quantifies the target with precision technology.
Lowers enemy DODGE and Movement Resist. Removes Stealth.

Short Controlled Burst

OOOX I OOOX
Neutronized. System shut.

Hammers the target with a burst of energy from the Vril Engine's particle thrower.
Powerful ranged attack. Reduces enemy SPD.

Electroplasmic Overcharge

OOXX
We really haven't had a completely successful test of this equipment.

Pushes the Vril Engine to the limit. Useful to offset the drain from offensive abilities.
Increases DMG and CRIT. Free Action. Cooldown 2. Chance to inflict Stress and Blight.

Attractor Tether

OOOO I XXOO
Make sure the streams don't cross.

Uses a neutronic-quantum tether beam to ensnare the target, yanking them out of the shadows.
Reduces enemy SPD. Pull 2. Chance to shuffle the Paracausalist.

Photonic Flash Flare

XXXO I O+OXX
Back off. I'm a scientist.

Charges the particle thrower with strong photons, causing a flare of light.
Reduces enemy ACC. Removes stealth. Back 2.

The Goligher Cage

OOXX I O+O+O+O
Don't look directly at it.

Briefly unleashes a horrific entity contained within a mysterious arcane artifact.
1 use per battle. Shuffles enemy party for several rounds. Lowers enemy SPD and DMG. Causes Stress to the party. The Paracausalist takes increased Stress Damage for the rest of the battle.

I've examined what we've discovered so far, and I think there may be a pattern to this place...

Increased Scouting chance.

Scientific Explanation

Cost: 2
They are paracausal extra-reality manifestations, nothing more.

Increases party's Stress resist.

Tend to the Engine

Cost: 3
Hrmm. Yes. Good thing I caught this before it became a real problem.

Increases the Paracausalist's damage for several battles.

Trepanning

Cost: 1
No interfering colleagues to stop me this time.

Greatly reduces the Paracausalist's stress. Chance to damage Paracausalist. Chance to inflict Stress on the party.

In Future
Beyond Mortality is an ongoing concept being developed! Future updates will add new more powerful and terrifying Ectomorphs to battle, new lore and treasures to obtain, and even new heroes as well!

The ectomorph that traps one of your heroes with an attack doesnt recieve dot damage when he uses that specific attack

I believe I have encountered a mistake with the stress component of the quirks hatred_of_ectomorphs fear_of_ectomorphs ectophobia.

The rule_type "monsterType" only procs an effect when a hero is attacking a monster.
What should be used instead is "monster_type_count_min" with 1 in the float. This will proc the effect while at least one of that type of monster is alive in battle,

Additionally ecto_haunted damage taken component should have the rule_type "attacking_monster_type" so that it only procs when attacked by an ectomorph.

This mod is great. Contrary to what others have said ectomorph spawns are just right. I'll encounter them a few times, but not too often that it feels repetitive. I like that they are a region specific (ruins) as it feels more balanced, but it probably wouldn't hurt to have them spawn in other regions at perhaps a lower spawn rate.

Not alone with this one. What's funny it crashes *just*
Like no error pop-up, no crash log or something like that, At least as far i say been searching for logs. Ghost just does that move and game just quits
