What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Since Rolled Out!’s initial crowdfunding campaign, backers have been able to play the game as it comes to life, giving their thoughts and shaping the process. However, this meant that access to the game was limited to just those backers. A lot of people are excited to get hands-on with it, so we decided to push for an open release. The core gameplay is ready to go, but we’re still working on developing new features, levels, and modes of play. We’re hoping you can help us guide the future of Rolled Out!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We have a clear idea in mind of what features the final version of Rolled Out! will contain, and we plan to stay in Early Access until those features are complete. At the moment, we expect the development of those features to take roughly 12 to 18 months. We’ll be communicating our roadmap and schedule at every step of the way, and our full feature plan can be viewed at our website.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We will be adding new features, modes, levels, and characters to Rolled Out! as we progress through Early Access. The full version of the game will have more characters and more levels (in more worlds). Those worlds will be incorporated into our planned Main Game Mode, featuring a world map. We plan on adding local and online multiplayer down the line, as well as better infrastructure for downloading and installing custom community levels. We’ll also be adding features like replays, leaderboards, and other quality-of-life improvements and amenities.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Rolled Out!’s core systems and behaviour are fully implemented, and 150+ levels across a total of 9 different worlds are playable in Arcade Mode and Practice mode. Both modes can be played as our first character - Morris the rat - and players can try for personal bests in time and score. Rolled Out! also fully supports custom level content - you can create your own with our Blender 3D plugin, or download levels created by others, and import them into the game to play.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“During Early Access, we plan to offer a small discount, and raise the price when the game is complete to reflect the full suite of features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The goal of our launch in Early Access is to iterate based on community feedback. Stage critique, bug reports, and feature requests all help us figure out exactly what we need to do next. We’ll be paying close attention to posts here on Steam, but we also encourage players to join our official Discord server, where players and devs chat together daily about the game.”
