Informazioni sul gioco

Year 1645. Scholar Fang Zhiyou descended into madness following the suicide of his childhood friend. Overwhelmed with grief, unable to continue writing, and chased by past traumas; he began drowning his sorrows in alcohol and developed a mental condition that made him see people as beasts.

On the 24th day of the fourth lunar month, after drinking heavily, Fang collapsed in the street on his way home. When he woke up, he found himself transported to the Kingdom of Shituo, a city he had once introduced in his book.

A book that described how, 500 years before the Great Sage Sun Wukong’s journey, the Yaoguai wreaked havoc on Shituo, slaughtering and terrorizing its people under the command of the Golden Winged Great Peng.

Just as in his book, he starts experiencing the chaos and the horrifying reality of the war. Amid the murders, rapes, and the burning city, Fang lost all hope of survival. Yet, that changed when he encountered a young girl.

A girl looked extremely similar to Su Lingyan, an old friend who had tragically ended her life three years earlier. The courtesan Su Lingyan, his childhood sweetheart and his only confidante. She even shared the same childhood nickname, “Little Swan.”

Determined to protect her, Fang vowed to survive and ensure her safety until the massacre was over, no matter the cost.

Story Background

There are two storylines set in the late Ming Dynasty, “Memo” and “Recall”.

  • Memo chapters:

This part covers the 10 days following the 24th day of the fourth lunar month, 1645.

After Emperor Chongzhen’s suicide on Mei Mountain, Wu Sangui led Qing soldiers into the northern plains of the former Ming Empire. The Ming royal family fled south, establishing the Southern Ming Dynasty to resist the Qing invasion.

The Qing army divided into two forces. One attacked the peasant army led by the Dashing King, Li Zicheng. The other, commanded by Prince Yu (Dodo), directly invaded south of the Yangtze River. Dodo dispatched a hundred thousand soldiers to lay siege to Yangzhou city. Shi Kefa, leading both citizens and soldiers, defended the city to the end. Eventually, the city fell, and Dodo ordered a massacre.

  • Recall chapters:

This part spans the years 1632 to 1642. During this period, the southern Ming regions remained unaffected by the great famine. The sprouts of capitalism began to emerge, and culture and commerce reached unprecedented heights. Novels, dramas, and stories flourished, spreading across all levels of society.

Perhaps, people were concerned about the current state of affairs, but they remained unaware that the fall of the dynasty was near.

Character Intro

Fang Zhiyou

The protagonist. After losing his parents at the age of nine, he was adopted by his uncle. Fang passed the imperial examination at a young age and became a scholar. However, he chose to live alone, gave up pursuing an official career, and tried to spend the rest of his life as a writer.

He tried to emulate the Scoffing Scholar of Lanling, who wrote The Plum in the Golden Vase inspired by Water Margin. Similarly, Fang Zhiyou created Kingdom of Shituo based on Journey to the West. However, the death of his friend Su Lingyan shocked him so deeply that he could no longer write. He lost his memories and developed an illness that caused him to see people as beasts. In 1645 on the 24th day of the fourth lunar month, after drinking heavily, he found himself transported to the Kingdom of Shituo — the very world he had once written about.

Su Lingyan

A courtesan who never offered bed services. She was an artist with a natural talent for writing poems, drawing, and playing different instruments. Su Lingyan was so famous that people from the whole empire traveled to see her performances. The night of the 15th year of Chongzhen, she ended her life by jumping from the Twenty-four Bridge into the cold waters. Her death became a never-cured illness in Fang Zhiyou’s heart.

Little Swan

A mysterious young girl with the same nickname and appearance as Su Lingyan. However, she has a very distinct personality from Su. Fang’s old friend was decisive and stronger than most boys, but Little Swan was a weak, faint-hearted girl to be protected. She is the first person that Fang meets after entering the Kingdom of Shituo.

Madam QiongHua

The wife of a general. She got her nickname, Qionghua, after the white-jaded flower she always wears in her hair. She used to live in a shelter under the Twenty-four Bridges, gathering victims from all around the city and protecting them from murder and theft in the name of her husband, Wang. As she became popular, the people she saved started calling her Madam White-Jaded Flower, or Madam Qionghua.

The Golden Winged Great Peng

The responsible for the massacre of the city in the Kingdom of Shituo. He is one of the three Yaoguai of Shituo Ridge. Of an unpredictable personality, his actions are hard to comprehend, yet he often accomplishes remarkable feats. The eldest Yaoguai brother is the violent Green Lion, the second is the cunning and scheming White Elephant, and Tathagata Buddha who is yet to become Buddha, is his own nephew.
