Its silly, over the top. Any shreds of balance is thrown out the window by the time you reach Chapter 2 (and thats okay, because its fun to blast entire rooms with bolter salvos).
The game fills you with a desire to explore the stars, find ancient, alien civilisations... and then obliterate them for not being as great as humankind.
Abhor the mutant.
Abhor the xenos.
Kill the heretic.
Trust only the Emperor.
Simple as.

Don't buy if you plan to play on Steam Deck. No clue how it go verified, instantly drops to 26fps in the starting area and stays there. The moment there are more than two chars on screen it drops further. Any action on screen an we enter sub 20fps country. That is with the SD graphical settings. Refunded.

After having to restart my save because I ran out of a resource, I still recommend this game if you like Warhammer or you like RPG's in general.

Its biggest and best attribute is the writing and the overall theme/feel of the game. Dare I say it, the writing in this game is BETTER than BG3. The PC interactions are top notch. I even noticed how the dialogue shifts naturally with NPC's if you have different people in your party.

Also the atmosphere of the game...you feel like you're in the world, not playing a Warhammer tabletop RPG. Music is well done, appropriate for its setting with a little metal/rock thrown in which I liked.

The big downside to this game is there's a lot to track. There's far too much choice in what to do with your characters because there's so many talents/perks/enhancements to choose from. I was almost glad to restart my game because I had more knowledge about what talents worked with what, attribute selection, etc. You have to learn ship combat by losing several times and figuring out how to upgrade/manage your ship because the game gives a very basic tutorial on ship movement and not much else. The Achillies heel is navigating your ship on the warp map. You have a navigation resource which helps you unlock routes to other systems and makes warp paths safer. If you use too much of this resource, you'll run out at a crucial part of the game and you'll either have to restart or pray you get a scenario while traveling unsafe routes which grants you more of that resource. I had to restart my game because of this.

Only other downside is if you start another playthrough, the game is on rails for a long while so it can feel like a slog replaying some parts. But there's enough variety of playstyle choice to see how differently things can go if you decided to play like an iconclast the first time but go heretic the second time (you'll see what I mean when you play).

But this is a game you can easily sink 100 hours into and it will keep you occupied. This game also taught me a lot more about the Warhammer 40k universe than I knew. If you like the universe at all or even think you might enjoy it, get this game! I caught it on sale but it's worth the full price.
