Why Early Access?

“Our goal is to create a thrilling and engaging player experience from the time that they invest in the game, exploring and crafting as they navigate through the harsh environment of SERUM. We want players' insights to help us further balance the game. We value constructive feedback and appreciate the community’s help.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“SERUM will be in early access for roughly twelve months until we’ll launch Version 1.0. We’re open to feedback during the early access phase of what players consider the most important features they value most. For the Game Island team, this means being able to schedule enough time to accommodate community feedback or new ideas.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While aspects like the story probably won’t change, it will continue to evolve core player features like crafting, tools, weapons and exploration. We envisage all of these will continue to be developed further based on community feedback.

Design features may also be refined further. For example, the game's crafting and UI system is something that would evolve based on player feedback.

Since we are developing in UE5, technical initiatives like continued optimisation, the overall balancing of gameplay and configuring the game to run smoothly on different systems will all contribute to the version 1.0 launch.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“SERUM’s early access release candidate aims to provide hours of exploration, crafting and resource gathering. Players will be able to forge weapons and use formulas to craft Serums that they source in the game world. Generally speaking, players can utilize crafting, build elements of their home base and hunt, all of which are core features in single- and multiplayer cooperative game mode.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“While we can’t say for sure what the game's final pricing will be, it is very likely there will be an increase in price for the 1.0 version full release, this factors in all of the work and additional features added to the game. A lower retail price for early access is a way for us to show appreciation to the player community for their constructive feedback and to acknowledge the time they will invariably invest exploring, crafting and hunting in SERUM, not to mention helping us shape our overall vision for the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our social media channels, particularly our Steam page devlogs, have been running for a while now, and these will continue to play an important role in updating the community on what we are working on, but also providing a keen insight into SERUM’s mysterious world.

Support on things like bugs and technical assistance during its early access period will also help the community provide essential feedback. We remain committed to a transparent creative process that brings players into the process of building the game.”
