Steam client crashes can occur with run alongside conflicting programs, and in the presence of an unknown input devices.

Troubleshooting:
Opt into Steam beta builds
The Steam client beta:
In the Steam client, go to Steam in the top-left > Settings (Preferences on Mac) > Account tab > Under Beta participation click Change > Select Steam Beta Update

The Steam Link beta:
From the Steam Link main menu, go to Settings > System,/ > Switch to beta build
Disable conflicting programs
Some third-party programs have been found to conflict with Steam Controller functionality. Try disabling these programs and restarting your computer.
  • Razer Synapse
  • XInput emulators
  • Screen capture software (Fraps, etc.)
  • Skype, Skypehost
  • MSI Afterburner
  • ASUS AI Suite
  • ZoneAlarm
Update your GPU drivers
Open your GPU (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) control panel and install the latest drivers.
Power cycle Steam Link and computer
Some issues can be resolved by power cycling your Steam Link and computer.

  1. Unplug the power cable from your Steam Link
  2. Wait 3 seconds
  3. Plug the power cable back in and allow the Steam Link to fully restart (around 30 seconds)
Reset Steam installation
Uninstall, then re-install Steam on the C: drive.
