It took me a while to solve this. I didn't see the passage in the initial sequence. Nice puzzle.
Geneosis  [auteur] 30 aug 2013 om 9:23
@UFS FrostGiant : Added your map to the list. No idea when I will play it anyway...
FrostGiant 29 aug 2013 om 14:17
Apollo Geef 28 mrt 2013 om 22:01
hehehe, I almost did some painting! I'll have to look for the bonus though]
Geneosis  [auteur] 28 mrt 2013 om 18:19
@Apollo Geef : The white gel is here if you want to get the bonus, or just to have fun at the end ;) It allow you to repaint almost all the map in white :p
Apollo Geef 24 mrt 2013 om 23:53
The last big room was a little non sequitur to the rest of the level, but that was quite possibly the most beautiful turret destruction sequence I have seen. I'm not sure what the goo dropper was there for, unless I missed something.
Geneosis  [auteur] 20 mrt 2013 om 15:09
@buff00n : Arf, I think you are not the first to do this part the wrong way, I thought this will not stuck you as you could just take the cube back through the portals if you do it from the wrong side... But if you moved the wrong portal to the wrong place, you may end stuck -_-
Sadly this is really hard to think about a way to fix that as the player is not supposed to be able to reach the cells and get a new cube for example...
buff00n 16 mrt 2013 om 10:27
Cool concept.

I got stuck - after moving the vertical platform out of the way I placed a portal above the next button and then dropped the cube through the ceiling from the other side, leaving me with no way out of that area. In hindsight that was a pretty stupid thing to do, but it would be nice if there was a way to get out of there or otherwise reset.

It started very funny and in-ambiente, then it became quite un-jail-stylish, agreeing to levitatingspleen. But after finding the towerroom, I cleared up with all towers I found and with the exit open, I had fun by painting all walls of the jail white, to get over the goo-gap to the switch and found out, that the fizzler wouldn't have helped to escape on this route anyway, as I didn't find a way to turn it off. Nice puzzle with the moving platform, kept me thinking a bit!
Ad: Who wants to get lost in a huge maze of similar rooms, (spoiler: that were designed as a big jail with cells for testing different lethal thingies,) doesn't get tired of exploring around, having no fear to enter one by one, has the will to survive and to find the exit?
If you feel adressed, then enter the Cube (<click) NOW!
Geneosis  [auteur] 11 nov 2012 om 14:05
Well, in fact the first way you described was the "expected way", and the second one was the "optional secret way" XD Glad you found them all anyway :p
8MMW 11 nov 2012 om 6:19
Quite good map. I think I used some kind of exploit while playing the first time. After placing sphere on place I was able to portal to the further part from the "right" room screen . But I completed it the right way later screen .
And I kind of agree with levitatingspleen, the last part doesn't fit that good. But it was fun, especialy since I realised that I didn't have to take the turrets down individualy by portalling under them :)
I think you could the map much better by keeping the style of the first part. It was still good though.
Geneosis  [auteur] 18 okt 2012 om 14:53
Ok, so if tossing the cube still get you stuck you are not supposed to use it :p
NiclO (- - ) 18 okt 2012 om 14:40
It was the franken cube you use to kill the first turrets that guard the cells. And yes I tossed it. I got stuck in that last part so I came up with an easier solution. ("cheated")
Geneosis  [auteur] 18 okt 2012 om 14:14
@NiclO : Hmmm... I admit you talk about the hidden franken cube... Don't remember exactly if that was a "secrect" expected solution or if this is an exploit XD
Did you do anything that seems too tricky to get the franken cube? Like cube tossing or cube jumping?
Geneosis  [auteur] 18 okt 2012 om 14:12
Well, if I have some idea on how to make it less weird and misplaced, I will update the map ^^
NiclO (- - ) 18 okt 2012 om 14:11
I don't think I solved it the way you intended. Was I supposed to bring the franken cube to the last hallway and then have cubes on both cube-only-buttons at the same time ?
levitatingspleen 18 okt 2012 om 14:09
The only problem with that is that dark atmosphere and turret burning fun don't mix well. On their own they're fine but when you put them together the transition is a bit jarring.
Geneosis  [auteur] 18 okt 2012 om 8:39
Yeah, so you were finally able to play it XD Glad you liked the first part, some people think that this part is harder because ell the rooms are similar and they are a bit lost sometimes ^^" But as you seems to be have more experience, yeah the logical challenge behind this map is not too hard, it's more about little tricks (like how you get the cube on the other side of the moving platform).
And about the end, I know that it completely breaks the ambient feeling of the map, the idea I had when I built this was : After you worked hard to exit the prison, the map switch to "fun mode" as soon as you enter the last room. It was a sort of outlet where you could burn some turrets ant completely repaint the map with white gel :p
levitatingspleen 17 okt 2012 om 16:52
I know its a bit too late to change anything for the contest, but here's some feedback anyway.

I really enjoyed this map. In the beginning you have this very solid and interesting atmosphere. Everything from the lighting to the sphere in the cube button really gave this half broken prison cell look. The puzzles were pretty good. They were a bit to simple in my opinion. Not so simple or boring that they distracted from the experience but not interesting or challenging enough to be memorable. The strength of this map is the visuals. You create this great dark and tense escape aesthetic, at least until the laser and turret part. That was sorta just randomly thrown in there and broke the carefully crafted atmosphere. Overall great map spoiled by a random and poorly conceived ending.
Geneosis  [auteur] 15 okt 2012 om 10:17
OK! Map re-re-re-re-...-uploaded XD
Geneosis  [auteur] 15 okt 2012 om 9:47
Argh! Sorry, will try to do that immediately...
levitatingspleen 15 okt 2012 om 3:41
The deadline for the contest has already passed. I'm feeling generous so I've added a time extension. Please re-upload ASAP I need to get the results in by the end of today
Geneosis  [auteur] 13 okt 2012 om 10:22
Ah, sh***, I thought this stupid bug was fixed -_- Well, will upload again the next time I play...
levitatingspleen 13 okt 2012 om 9:38
hello again, I hate to sound like a broken record but it seems as if the tags have vanished from your map again. I am still unable to play it. Try to re-upload as fast as possible so I can give you feedback before the contest is over. Best of luck!
Geneosis  [auteur] 28 sep 2012 om 10:56
Map reloaded! Should work fine now ^^
Geneosis  [auteur] 28 sep 2012 om 9:06
Oh, fail, sorry about that ^^ I know about this bug and re-publishing seems to work, will do that as soon as possible ;)
levitatingspleen 28 sep 2012 om 7:16
Thank you for posting this map to the contest! Unfortunately I cannot play it. It seems like your map has been affected by the tagging glitch and won't appear in my queue. Re-uploading should fix the problem. best of luck and I look forward to playing.
Geneosis  [auteur] 26 sep 2012 om 3:56
Don't think so... If my map follow exactly the aim and constraints of the contest, I don't see why I can't propose it ^^
Unless the guy that launched the contest precise that you need a new dedicated map for that ;)
Stagger Lee 25 sep 2012 om 14:46
Don't you have to make a new map for a map competition though?
Geneosis  [auteur] 25 sep 2012 om 14:04
Hehe, once again I just proposed an old map for the contest as it fits with the rules ^^ Don't have many hopes about the result, but hope people will enjoy playing it ;)
SpookyPenta 25 sep 2012 om 13:59
Subbed, look foward to playing it. Plus I enjoy the competition.
Mr.Johno 9 sep 2012 om 3:50
My Pleasure. I look forward to doing more of them
Geneosis  [auteur] 9 sep 2012 om 3:16
lol, liked the "Geneosis play Portal 2" in the middle of the video XD Added it with the images ;) Thaks again for recording!
Geneosis  [auteur] 23 aug 2012 om 9:44
Well this map is supposed to involve hard work in the first part, so I added a "fun mode" you can activate by pressing the button in the turret room at the end ;)
.sheridan .vespo 23 aug 2012 om 9:38
The athmosphere is pretty cool, but there are several possibilities to get stuck. I didn't get what the upstairs area with all the turrets was supposed to be, that didn't make much sense to me. It actually destroyed part of the feeling. Also what was the white gel for?
Geneosis  [auteur] 9 aug 2012 om 7:40
@Cannons McChop : How did you manage to get stuck? Did you destroy a cube or something? Or fizzle your portals?
Snarplord XVI 9 aug 2012 om 7:39
Got stuck after I got out of my cell. Great puzzle though!
stormsend 4 aug 2012 om 17:08
really tough at the beginning but rolled along nicely to the end. had a few stop and think moments. again, love killin those turrets.
mood3rd 26 jul 2012 om 13:05
my main frustration was after getting the cube to the button, under the laser field.
because the lasser field should kill us, I thought I had missed something in or near the cells.
or I had to move the sphere or something. maybe find away to bring the franking cube.
etc.
as for no where else to go. I use quickload, to backtrack.
Irony is it did the opposite to helping me.
though, the no where else to go, does often work well.
also Ihave learnt about lasser fields, so no thumbs down.
Geneosis  [auteur] 25 jul 2012 om 14:10
Well I know this map is in big contradiction with the priciples of the "How to make great maps" discussion X) My excuse here was that the player have nowhere else to go, so he will obviously find that something changed after looking around a moment ^^"
But I assume this can be really frustrating if you find nothing for a too long time...
mood3rd 25 jul 2012 om 14:05
your right, I did not know I could grab the cube on the button through the laser field without dying ^^" they are supposed to kill us. so again, not logical.
dark ambience, is 1 thing. but when it makes potable & non-portable areas look the same,
especialy an esential area, this is bad.
Geneosis  [auteur] 25 jul 2012 om 13:37
Maybe you missed the fact that you could grab the cube on the button through the laser field without dying ^^"
Geneosis  [auteur] 25 jul 2012 om 13:36
Well that was one my first hard level because you really need to search what happened when you activate some buttons at the beginning, and use a non-intuitive mothod to get the cube on the other side of the moving pannel ^^
Sorry if you didn't like the dark ambience of the puzzle, but all that was expected ^^"
And yeah at the end pressing the pedestal button will activate "fun mode" : So a lot of turrets will burn and you will be allowed to paint all the map in white for fun 8D
mood3rd 25 jul 2012 om 13:02
I presume pressing the pedestal button, caused a chain reaction.
which activated the lassers, paint & removed stairs.
back in the cells, a portable area in the high area between 2 cells,
was so dark, I did not know it was their for ages.
as for the lasser field over button,
I put a portal just in front of it &
stood on the button the other side of the piston & sort of jumped & twisted to grab cube.
aukward as ....

amazes me that I completed it, as it seemed far from logical.
exploding turrets good.
the only reason not giving thumbs down. but no thumbs up. sorry
Geneosis  [auteur] 25 jul 2012 om 3:47
The gel at the end is just to have fun after thinking hard in the level : you can repaint all the map in white if you want :p
MachManX 24 jul 2012 om 18:19
Great map. Loved the systematic BEEEEAM killing of the turrets. And the puzzle was challenging too, so great job! Though I fail to understand the use of the portal gel at the end?
Zapperlott 19 jul 2012 om 12:31
loved it! Smart design, awesome gameplay..5 stars
cyron43 12 jul 2012 om 12:48
Okay thanks I didn't know that.
Geneosis  [auteur] 12 jul 2012 om 10:45
Well this is not a glitch at all ^^ That's just that you jump is short enough to avoid the laser ;) If you try to jump again through it when you are on a cube for exemple, you will die X)
